Have you tried humming a couple of bars into the Tunefinder App?
Or, do you have a link, youtube or Discography where you heard it to discover a more common alternative name for it?

Seriously, all I know is the only place I can find a tune of that name is on this CD by the Beverwyck String Band.

Maybe ask Peter Siegel

So do I have to join some flute magician's union to find out?

A friend told me that he heard it at a session and liked the tune and wanted to learn it. So I am trying to find out what it is for us. I have never heard it and can't find it in my usual sources.

Since your source is, may I say, fairly vague, is it possible that it was the Congress, misheard?

Or The Contradiction or The Providence?

Or how about say "The Convenience" and flush this whole matter down the loo?
LOL
Best so far is that CD with a track by that name. I will try to get more info from there. Thanks Kevin.

Sorry, making a joke like MTGuru. A Confidence Trick.

Anyway, I've given you the only instance I can find of the name, as played by that contra band. You can hear it on their CD, and for all I know, they may have composed it. Get crackin'

If it's the Convenience Reel, there's a story behind it -- there was a festival of some sort, and if I recall correctly the weather was not exactly session-friendly or else the crowds were so thick, a bunch of musicians ended up playing the tune in the loo. John Skelton was one of those musicians, and he suggested the name. I don't know whether this was before or after John's band Shegui recorded the tune.

I wouldn't put it past him -- sounds like Skeltonia to me!

Anyway, great tune and here's some ABCs for it:

.....John's band Shegui
I remember Shegui in the early 80's playing Sunday nights in the Victoria on the Holloway Road (London) - great band, great nights, great haircuts but the convenience there wasn't anything to write a tune about :)
