ITM concert in Columbia, Maryland -- June 2010
Concert in Columbia, Maryland
a Sunday afternoon, early in June, 2010
This is an open invitation to all Chiffies to participate in a concert next June!
Our church has a talent show every spring. Our congregation has a large range of musical experience, all the way from the 10 yr old violinist squeaking their way through Old Joe Clark to teens playing recital pieces and adults performing their favorites.
For 2 years I've had the idea of having an ITM - themed concert, featuring both our own musicians and.... Chiffie guest musicians. Last Sunday I ran the idea past my choir director, and she gave me a very enthusiastic OK.
My vision for this concert would be to have music that runs a gamut from pure drop through pop / ITM (similar to Altan) and even (at least one) Newage number. (I'm sure anyone who found that unbearably repugnant could step outside a few minutes for a smoke or a cup of coffee...)
I'm picturing that anyone visiting from a ways off could make a 3-day weekend of it, taking the opportunity to visit the Smithsonian, the Baltimore Aquarium, and other local attractions. It's not bad getting from here to the Metro, which takes you to DC. We could probably manage overnight accommodations with the musically-inclined folks from our church.
I've never been to a pub session in Baltimore, but I hear they exist... that might be a good way to spend Saturday evening
Let me know if you'd be interested in participating, or if you have any creative ideas to add.

This would be cool. I seem to recall that there hasn't been a Gathering of The Chiff in quite a while, and it sounds like a good excuse for one.

Is your congregation performing penance for something specific?
Rose tint my world. Keep me safe from my trouble and pain.

How about these penance? I thought they'd be very festive, and they're specific too!

... and they can be performed with.
I'd love to see Columbia again! I lived there in my high school years. It was a darned cool spot at the time.

Yes. I will definitely try to attend. Columbia is 40 minutes away from me. Play? If there's a group of honestly bad players and I know what the music will be well in advance.

How long of a trip would it be for you?

I can vouch that there will be at least onePlay? If there's a group of honestly bad players and I know what the music will be well in advance.
Music well in advance -- yes that will have to be planned out -- because my local musicians will need to have sheet music in front of them.

Come on Denny -- when was the last time you and Adena saw DC?
Bring the kids! I'm sure Norton and Cass would be well-behaved.
I guess you might want to leave Wonka home with a sitter.

First Irish music I ever saw was in the Columbia Mall, nearly 30 years ago. Now look at me.
