- Tell us something.: I'm interested in Irish traditional music. Specifically flute & uilleann pipes at the moment. Did you know that the Sally Garden's starts like G2 DG B2 GB using the ABC language, that's certainly fascinating isn't it?
Rule #5
Came across this in the podcast section of the iTunes store ...
I follow the flute forum and see rule #5 broken often there, not that we're supposed to follow rules.

And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

S1m0n you're correct, this board is not a blog. The advice is specifically aimed at blog comments, but it's also generally about thoughtfully responding to another person. Not that I'm trying to be a curmudgeon.

George, now that I notice your avatar ... Ireland looks kind of like a blob, too, creeping toward Scotland. I'm beginning to detect a sinister theme here.

Re: Rule #5
I like this Rule #5 thing. Forums, blogs, lectures, shootin' the breeze, giving directions, what have you: all of it. If you don't really know and the best you have is a guess, then Mice-tall-crighty, say so. I do, and same with opinions ("Now, I don't know for sure, so this is just my opinion/guess, mind you..."). Saves my bacon, and big time. The downside of being clear about that is that, rather than "getting it", people start calling you opinionated.George wrote:S1m0n you're correct, this board is not a blog. Aren't we all. Pots and kettles, and all that. Rather than being known for talking out of my arse, I'd rather be known for having opinions, and for knowing the difference.
I propose we take up this Rule #5. Possible examples: "I don't want to break Rule #5, so could someone in the know help me out here?" or "Rule #5 alert! Bad Nano." (Actually I wanted to say "Bad Denny", but he doesn't make that sort of gaffe as I can remember. No fun there. )
