He's a toad.

No, he's Mole. Toad is walking with Rat behind the wagon.

By Jove, you're right!
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

Neither historic nor kitsch, but Gypsy nonetheless:

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

Two of the best scenes from Latcho Drom.

Most people don't appreciate the amount of influence the Gypsies have had on music.

Mukade, I'd like to see that. I can't find it on Netflix under any of the names I saw related to it, (Safe Journey, etc....). Have you seen it?

I think we all know that good jazz and gypsy fiddling all originated from Sligo style, that's just fact, no use denying it. I use to see Stéphane and Stuff secretly wondering the county all the time when I was a kid.

I don't find it on Netflix either.

it is at IMDb http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107376/

a search on the director (Toni Gatlif) didn't turn it up on Netflix either, although there is a latter one w/Gipsys named Gadjo Dilo

most of it seems to be at http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/se ... +drom+part

I bought the DVD here in Japan a few years ago - no story, but superb music and visuals.

It is still available on Amazon Japan.
I seems to be out of print in most other countries.

So I guess that explains the existence of Dervish. 8)

I've seen it, and it's a teriffic film. Try searching under the director's name, which was Tony Gatliff.

It's also useful to know that there is but a single sentence of dialogue in the entire film, so you're safe with a copy intended for any language as long as your DVD player can cope with differing country codes.

Bireli Lagrene

And we thought Yngvie Malmsteen invented sweep-picking. Actually, Django invented it, but Bireli brought it into the 21st century. 8)
