re-worked pakistan pipes

Post by reedbiter »

...I seem to recall a few of us tracking arrival of a new pipemaker 2 years back. I don' believe he was in business long...

Anyways, he was taking pakistan chanters, adding his own mounts and then claiming he had made them from scratch.

So, BUYER BEWARE...read the FAQ's.

There are a few Coyne sets with ivory mounts at the bell. I've seen a few reputable modern makers offer this also.

I don't know how it could cause a leak. The only disadvantage I can see is that the mount would be easier to break/crack if dropped than, say a brass ferrule on the bell.

The Galagher half set has been taken down, looks like someone bought it privately.

I've played 2 or 3 Gallagher B chanters and liked them very much. It's a pity Seth doesn't make them any more.

I wonder if the buyer of this half set intends add regulators and if so, who will make them?

!

something's funny here, watch out
pictures are reused from a high-value auction a long time ago
only 21 hours to go, 91% (!) positive... ?
"I know nothing about bagpipes..." etc.

so what gives

I think I have seen this set at a makers under restoration the huge mounts on the regulators are unmistakable and they are not palm nut mounts but something more traditional. Will see if he will comment.

As BillH says something fishy here :D

This is the 3rd or 4th time this item has appeared on eBay in the past 18 months. The first sale was legitimate. The rest bogus. Someone is reusing the photo from the original.

From what I know, the real set (possibly Taylor) is with a certain wellknown pipemaker for restoration.

I only live 15 miles away from telford so i think i`ll put a bid in and collect the item if i win. No chance of being scammed then.

Yep that Tayloresque set sold a long time ago and a scammer has been using photos from the original auction to create bogus auctions ever since. They come up on a regular basis.

Interestingly I saw my old set come up on Ebay a couple weeks ago. It went cheap- $2400 as I recall. A full set by Eugene Lamb that plays great, with a Kirk Lynch fully keyed chanter.

I contacted the seller to view the pipes and he told me he had already sold them but was unable to end the auction early as it was in its last few hours
