My friend and student Alec has an Overton low D.
It's wonderful in every way (if you have large hands, and can play a whistle that has good backpressure), and is one of the few low D whistles I've encountered that is loud enough to be clearly heard in the session.

Since I've taken up the flute, the one low D whistle I've kept is a Burke aluminum Pro. I didn't know Mike made brass low whistles; he didn't last time I was interested. I had one of his composites in E that was amazing. I have no idea why I parted with it.
The only other low whistles I have are Water Weasels. For reasons in addition to their playability, they're cold dead finger whistles.

- Tell us something.: I'm just trying to update my profile. I need to change my location since I no longer is living in Sweden. I'm still playing the whistle though for the most time I'm just a lurker on the Chiff and Fipple board.

What's prompting the question?
I voted for a Burke brass. I already own a composite and two aluminum Burke low D's. So that's my thinking.
I've had an Overton and it's a great whistle but quite different from the Burke.
In all my travels I have never run into an MK. They do look interesting.

I've proven who I am so many times, the magnetic strips worn thin.

"Santa" thinks that would be a good thing to leave under my tree this year. Who am I to argue?

I have a Howard, and I love it, but it doesn't have much volume.blackhawk wrote:Howard.

WHAT! I had a Howard low D, and I let it get away. Sit up straight, take a deep breath, and lean on it. It was one of the loudest whistles I have played. Sounds like a beautiful fog horn.anniemcu wrote:I have a Howard, and I love it, but it doesn't have much volume.blackhawk wrote:Howard.
