Generation-like whistle in A
I love Generation Bb. I wish there was such a thing as a generation in A.
Could you advise any gen-like whistle in that key?
It is not only GenBb sound that matters (though I do really like it), but also the weight of the instrument - aluminum Chieftain in Bb was a bit too heavy for me, and A one is even bigger...

I have a Sindt A that I bought hoping to achieve the very same thing you describe. I have been very happy with it. My only complaint is the quietness of it but that isn't even much of an issue to speak of since I either play it alone for my own enjoyment or mic'd on stage where the volume can be adjusted.

See this thread for a discussion of converting a Gen Bb to A:

Just 1) Pull out the mouthpiece; 2) Insert a putty choke in the bell; 3) Tape a few holes. The resulting A whistle is very Generation-like.

Does anyone actually play the little Generation whistles? (I'm thinking of the one in G specifically). Mine only gets used when a small child wants to "have a go" on one of my whistles. The result is only slightly higher pitched than a small child without a whistle. It's my little collection of Frankenwhistles: Generations in A, Bb, B, C, C#, and D (plus the little ones I never play).

Well, if I ever decide to record a cover of Jethro Tull's "The Whistler", I might have use for a high G whistle. Otherwhise... um, no.hoopy mike wrote:Does anyone actually play the little Generation whistles? (I'm thinking of the one in G specifically). Edit: sorry for bumping an old thread. I was linked here and didn't pay much attention to the dates.

I complained not too long ago that not only is there no Generation A there is no E, either.
I think I would rather tweak my Eb into an E so I can play A tunes as if they were G tunes. But I suppose that would be too screamingly high pitched, wouldn't it?

Not as high as the Gen F, which is a very sweet whistle (at least mine is).

Not at all, really. I've got a Gen E, tweaked from an Eb by Erik Torp Olsen (BTW, does anyone know what has happened to him? No trace of the man anywhere...) and it sounds sweet, indeed 'sings like a bird' (someone used the phrase here somewhere, referring to the Eb).sbfluter wrote:I think I would rather tweak my Eb into an E so I can play A tunes as if they were G tunes.
