Devondancer - News continues to be good

Post by devondancer »

Lesley's pain continues to decrease, with the new pain killers, and her heart is stable now. Pain was a part of her original injury problem anyway: the op was not to cure that (unless she was very lucky) but to stop it getting worse, and to prevent irreversible spinal cord damage. As the surgery appears to have worked (albeit at the third attempt) we hope that her mobility will improve again and that the pain will lessen or be controllable. She just wants to get up, walk, go home and dance!

Today when I went in she had slept for 14 hours solidly: the first natural sleep she has had for two and a half weeks (I think! Lost touch with the days somewhere.) She still looks as if she has just been run over by a bus, but she is white instead of blue and she looks like herself. She also looks VERY determined. She has actually blown a whistle today (with the mute!) and not run out of breath too quickly. And very proud she is, and I am. She has now asked for a physiotherapist to get her moving again - tomorrow if possible! We are having to remind her to make haste slowly.

She loved the seal joke - we are both very British, obviously! Thanks for all the jokes - of course I can tell her all the same ones tomorrow as she will have forgotten the punch lines by then. And all the good wishes and messages from all of you have meant so much to her. I hope that shortly she can thank you herself.

Once again, grateful thanks from both of us for your support. The road remains stony but I hope it is flattening out, and that, as cowtime said so beautifully, devondancer will soon be dancing downhill.

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

The Seal Joke:
Two men are reading their newspapers when one says: 'It says here there's a fellow in Devon who plays his cello to the seals.' 'Oh really', says the other. 'Yes', says the first, 'Of course, they don't take a blind bit of notice.'
We'll apparently have to buy a book to explain why it's funny.

I was nowhere near her other than sending my prayers to the two of you.
Rose tint my world. Keep me safe from my trouble and pain.

Good on yer both, Roland. But just think of that suntan you're both missing out on... :D

(For our Merkin readers, we are currently experiencing the worst summer since the end of the last glaciation)
"Last night, among his fellow roughs,
He jested, quaff'd and swore."

They cut me down and I leapt up high
I am the life that'll never, never die.
I'll live in you if you'll live in me -
I am the lord of the dance, said he!

Excellent news!

There is nothing like whistle therapy.

...except maybe flute therapy.

...but even better is pipe therapy.

I've been following, but haven't said anything until now.

I admire her spirit, and I also admire your spirit, Mr. Devondancer.

I wish you both a full and speedy recovery.

:-)
