Explanations aside...

That is wonderful.

Absolutely divine..

More to follow after a dozen or so reads..
Slan,
D.
And many a poor man that has roved,
Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

The thread title and "Fame" are both good'uns.

The others are just too dark for me on this dark night.

That would be a LOT of letters since there were twenty thousand on just that one oak tree alone! :P

Thanks for reminding me of a poem I loved when I first read it, and still love now. Memory is blurry, but I THINK I first read this in a small book of poems when I was a teenager, which would be nearly 30 years ago, but maybe I'm confusing it with something else. (I haven't really read much poetry for the last couple decades, though.) John Dickson as author didn't ring a bell either. I didn't see any information about original publication. Now I'm curious!

Well done poem.

If I'd know, I certainly would have told. Thanks for sharing this.

Damn! The conspiracy whose sole purpose was to keep this poem from
your sight has failed. The mechinations put in place to draw your eye away
whenever such a Portmanteau as "Poemectomy" appeared were clearly
insufficient. But not to worry. This conspiracy may have died its rightful
death, but its bretheren will not go gently. We will still keep you from finding
out about Billy Collins. (What's that? Damn again!)
