Vacation to Mexico: recommendations welcomed...

Post by brewerpaul »

Hi all~ Charlene and I are taking a vacation in Mexico from 5/17-24. We're going to the Mayan Riviera at an all inclusive resort in Akumal and we'd welcome any recommendations for interesting things to see and do. We went to Cancun on our honeymoon and have already visited Chichen Itza, Xcaret and Isla de Mujeres. Good snorkeling spots would definitely interest us, as well as interesting walking/hiking areas. Most real touristy stuff probably wouldn't. Thanks

Oh, you remember that post...

Actually I never bought any but as a novelty I might. I wonder how a whistle review of one (or several!) of those unique Mexican instruments would be received here on the board?
Walden-- those are actually more of an ocarina than a whistle. Want me to pick one up for you?

Hey brewerpaul!!

I just got back from Playa del Carmen last night. We were there for 7 days. Had a great time with the family. We did the whole Chichén Itzá tour, we also went to Tulum...not sure if you have been there, not as far out as the other ruins, but, hardly any shade...kids were cranky there, but, I enjoyed it.

On Tuesday, we went to this place called Xel Ha(shell ha)...its just like Xcaret. Kids loved it..all inclusive day..a bit pricey though. My daughter got to swim with the dolphins...she was beaming!!

We are exhausted, but, hardly got to see the peninsula. I really wanted to go to Isla Mujeres. Have heard its amazing for scuba diving...you can rent a scooter and drive the whole island, too.

I am tired and peeling everywhere...but, would go back tomorrow if I could afford it. Have a great trip!!

Uxmal is well worth visiting, though the son et lumiere stuff is tacky (but aren't they all?)

Merida is a lovely old colonial city, too.
