I think they also had a set of Gibson fireside pipes. I wish I had the full screen version as it was just a brief glance of the piper on the extreme right hand of the screen when I showed it when I ran a movie theater back in the 70's.

I saw "Troy" last night on the tube. In the scene where Paris and Hector are sailing back to Troy, there is a brief shot and audio of a whistle player noodling on deck. The whistle looks like a black Bb, possibly PVC, but I only got a glimpse.

What would a wild walrus whistle if a walrus could whistle wild?

The second mouse may get the cheese but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired.

Aha, that explains all those plastic soda bottles Schliemann dug up. :P

I watched it last night, too, but missed that scene. Dang.

I've only seen it once, but I seem to remember one of the guys playing a whistle in Hitchcock's "Lifeboat".

I just watched 'You Kill Me' with Ben Kingsley and Téa Leoni. Ben Kingsley is working at a wake and there's an Irish band playing. I don't remember the tune and I'm not sure what brand whistle it was, but it was brass with a green top.

That narrows the field a bit.

And the PVC plumbing in the Trojan bathrooms. The Greeks had to make do with PVC porta-potties.

I believe the movie "Glory" has a small ensemble with a whistle player in it.

Lord of the Rings has quite a bit of tinwhistle in it. You never see anyone one playing it in the movie, but it's quite noticeable in the soundtrack. Especially in the 'Concerning Hobbits' track. I love that tune :D.

Since I'm new the the tinwhistle, I've only recently been training my ears to find it in movies :D. So my eyes... um... ears will be peeled. ;)

a sailor from the ship that sank played the whistle.

That tune would be a ''Carolan'' (Planxty Irwin). Kevin Kiefer was waltzing with the flower of his eye.

The series "Treme" has a street musician playing tin whistle in several scenes and episodes, usually with Steve Earle's character. Really great blues and cajun style playing. This was a truly great series and a must see for any musician interested in jazz, blues, or cajun music, or in seeing a series set in New Orleans starting immediately after Katrina. Made by the same people who brought you "The Wire".

Wow anachronistic on so many levels! One would think they would try for some authenticity.
