Ever Wonder What a Crystal Flute Sounds Like?
During my nightly trawling of the internet I found the following at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston website: http://www.mfa.org/
Under COLLECTIONS - MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS - HEAR THE SOUNDS OF THE COLLECTION..WIND INSTRUMENTS ....
A French Crystal and Silver Flute by Claude Laurent ~ 1837
mms://media.mfa.org/audio/MIAudio79.mp3 Performed by Peter H. Bloom.
Note the Crystal Clear quality of the tone!

Nice one, Jordan - thanks for the clip link! I actually got to hold and have a blow on one of these years ago chez Paul Davis, but it had leaky keys and I wasn't playing well either, so didn't get a huge amount from the experience, unfortunately. Plus I was far more interested in the stunning ivory baroque flute he had at that time....... with which I totally fell in love!
I respect people's privilege to hold their beliefs, whatever those may be (within reason), but respect the beliefs themselves? You gotta be kidding!

Hmm... I thought they were flutes, like on a gun barrel, to help keep it from overheating when you play really fast.Denny wrote:Naw....
That's what them little ridges are for.
They help dampen the sympathetic vibrations.

They could have made them spiral, to give good directionality to the notes you play on it.dow wrote:Hmm... I thought they were flutes, like on a gun barrel, to help keep it from overheating when you play really fast.Denny wrote:Naw....

- Tell us something.: To paraphrase Mark Twain, a gentleman is someone who knows how to play the spoons and doesn't. I'm doing my best to be a gentleman.
Laurent's crystal flute sounds lovely, as played on this album: http://www.virginia.edu/topnews/release ... -2000.html
Not sure where the album is available...I recall buying my copy at Monticello.
