Tell us something.: To paraphrase Mark Twain, a gentleman is someone who knows how to play the spoons and doesn't. I'm doing my best to be a gentleman.

Zubivka,
Vice Roesti-Pie! Yes, er, I mean Ja Ja, Jawohl! I will do my best to bring honor the position.
Thanks for the Lorient info...maybe I'd be better off finding a couple Festou-Noz (is that the correct plural?) instead. I was at a big Fest-Noz in Quimper in September of 1998--that was a blast, and it was cheap. (I studied in Tours that year. Reminds me, I went to a small Fest Noz in the Tourraine as well, and this fellow Erik, who insisted that he was Breton, not French, commented "Oui, ce n'est pas mal pour un Fest-Noz en France.") I'll let you know what my dates are when the summer approaches.

This thread grows faster than I can read it! And never mind trying to keep up with the kalaidoscope of topics . . . I feel so inadequate . . . I guess I'll never be King Cutie-pie.

To post a picture, it has to be on-line somewhere (there are several free image hosting sites...I used http://www.snapfish.com). Upload the pic, then right click on it and copy the image location. Then you use the following html code to post it here:

< IMG SRC = "http://www.thelocationwherethepiclives.jpg" >

Be sure to close up all the spaces except for those between "IMG" and "SRC" (I put in extra spaces so the code wouldn't embed), and don't forget the quotation marks around the URL.

There, there Michael. Somebody around here is bound to offer to kiss your ... boo boo wasn't it?

As for king, forget it matey. Nothing personal, mind. We have the sensibilities of Californians as well as Lallans speakers and Ersatzlallans speakers to accomodate. It's a burdensome thing this all-inclusiveness. Like trying to fit everyone on the board into a telephone booth.

We could however do better than make you king. We could make you Duly Elected Presiding Cutenick of the Cutiecommune. You'd have to wrest that away from the current incumbents though: the Weekenders and Amar. I don't like your chances at the moment—they seem to be enjoying the position rather too much. Now if you were to show us your platform....

You got a head start : you already speak one word of Breton! Ya.

PS: I'm no expert but your plural is correct : <i>Festou noz</i>, with their <i>bagadou</i>.

To my knowledge, Tahlequah is the only city (town, really) in the world with street signs in Cherokee, though.

You gotta be right, since I don't see no signs in Cherokee around here

How does one write Cherokee ? Is it special signs, or a transcript with makeshift Roman alphabet ?

That was too funny, Wendy! LOL

Actually, what I said was rather dull:
Good evening! How are things? It's lovely tonight in Atlanta... but it's cold. Ugh!

It's a syllabary. Each letter represents a whole syllable. Here is a web page, at the official tribal site, which has a chart: http://www.cherokee.org/Extras/DownloadsPage.asp?ID=7

Thanks Walden for this information. Now I really get to travel with Internet.

Funny, these signs look to me a bit like Macedonian cyrillic (seen from far)

PS: What would be your N.A. name if you have one (phonetically and, of course, how would/does it translate ?)
