Yeah. It's the kind of thing you react to with that combination of horror and laughter. I call it the "Pulp Fiction Laugh."

Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

That was last winter in Portland, Oregon. Seattle got slammed by the same ice storm, but Portland got it worse.

Tell us something.: "Tell us something" hits me a bit like someone asking me to tell a joke. I can always think of a hundred of them until someone asks me for one. You know how it is. Right now, I can't think of "something" to tell you. But I have to use at least 100 characters to inform you of that.

It's amazing how stupid people can get when you put a steering wheel in their hands.

Hint - If your car is not getting traction, and several other cars are not getting traction, hitting the gas isn't going to miraculously give you traction.... ...though it might get you put in traction.

We stand a chance of getting major iceage in the next couple of days. Last time that happened it was three months before the temperature was warm enough to melt the thick plank of ice covering the roads. That was unusual, though. If we ice up, it's gonna be fun until they put the sand out; usually the ones who have trouble here aren't locals, and are from places where they have little if any experience with conditions like that.

When I lived in Tucson we had a hail storm one day that incapacitated the local drivers for a bit. It was hysterically funny and no little bit sad to see how little people understood about the functioning of a motor vehicle in slick conditions... and loads of folks there come from areas that are used to slick conditions in the winter... all driving skills that may have once been adequate disappeared even faster than the ice in the desert.

In the Pacific Northwest, we drive on wet roads for more than 9 months of the year, but after a few weeks of dry weather each summer the entire population of western Washington forgets how to safely drive in the rain.
