Re: movies that make you cry
The short story on which the movie was based was much better. You actually do get a sense of the relationship developing. I think part of the problem with the movie is they had two hours to fill, so they threw a bunch of sex into the first hour, then wasted the bulk of the film time on the lives of the two men AFTER Brokeback Mountain, which was boring, confusing, and didn't really add much to the plot. A good theme, but probably not the best screen adaptation ever done.anniemcu wrote:You know, I didn't like Brokeback Mountain. I felt like it was just used to bring homosexuality, with extreme emphasis on the sexual part, to the screen in a more blatant manner. The movie itself just wasn't that good. The story relied way too much on assumption and the shallowness of the relationships didn't jive with the weight given them - The love implied between the two guys was never supported by any of the story, only the lust and insanity. That may be the fact of a lot of relationships, hetero or homosexual, but I think it could have been done a whole lot better.Cranberry wrote:For a few years I didn't watch movies. Which movies have made you cry, and what are they about? Would you watch them again?
As far as movies making me cry, well...it's not hard. But a few that spring immediately to mind are:
The Iron Giant. When the giant whispers "Superman" just before he intercepts the missile, I break down sobbing. Every time. My husband too.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Yes, I knew what was going to happen. I cried anyway. And again when I bought it on video. And again whenever I watch it.
Sophie's Choice. How could I not? How could ANYBODY not?
The Passion of the Christ (the Mel Gibson movie). Knew what was going to happen in that one too. Cried anyway. Cry every Passiontide, for that matter, so nothing surprising about that one.
It's not a movie yet, but I can tell you right now that I'll cry at the end of the final Harry Potter movie, unless they seriously screw it up. Heck, I bawled like a baby when I finished the book!

And whether the blood be highland, lowland or no.
And whether the skin be black or white as the snow.
Of kith and of kin we are one, be it right, be it wrong.
As long as our hearts beat true to the lilt of a song.

Re: movies that make you cry
Had you read the story? I had read the story before but never seen the movie. The story shows a lot more of the characters' personalities, I think. They were just kids when their relationship begins (they were 19) but I think the movie kind of glossed over that and concentrated on the later part, after Jack gets killed. It makes sense, I guess, because it's more difficult to make an actor look younger than older.anniemcu wrote:You know, I didn't like Brokeback Mountain. Probably for a different reason than you mean, though
