I gave my Acorn another play with these new-found opinions. Ok, I don't hate it as much as I thought I did. It's tone is nice, but it does squawk and slip between notes a little too easily. Also, it tends to over-blow a tad too easy... has anyone else had that problem?

Neoclown, I find the mellow dog my favourite whistle, I prefer it to the dixon trad, which I also like... but just just not as much, because the trad is almost too much of an easy player, if you are over blowing the acorn, you may find the trad does the same. By no means am I saying the mellow dog is difficult to find the second octave, it just takes a tad more pressure than the trad and in my humble opinion (as one beginner to another) is better balanced.

Check out both whistles sounds by chosing different tunes and looking out for trad and mellow dog here:

Let us know how you get on, which ever whistle you choose!

All the best,

John

I really did like the Mellow D, I'll look into it in some time.

I also enjoyed the Acorn D player, they did a good job.

I'm no expert but I do have some very nice whistles now to compare things with and so I want to add another recomendation for the Mellow Dog. You can get one with a C tube as well now. The Mellow Dog is a very very good whistle for just a few Dollars.

I like my Oak in D.

It's the only whistle that I own, and I think it sounds outstanding.

I received by Walton Little Black D a few days ago and I've been playing it off and on ever since. I like the clear tone and how easy it is to blow.

Good stuff. Thanks for the feedback guys.
