Tell us something.: "Tell us something" hits me a bit like someone asking me to tell a joke. I can always think of a hundred of them until someone asks me for one. You know how it is. Right now, I can't think of "something" to tell you. But I have to use at least 100 characters to inform you of that.

Bay Area Sessions in Mid November?

Post by WyoBadger »

Hey, Kids.

My school is sending me to a big fancy music conference in San Jose (putting me up at the Marriot, no less! 8) ) in the middle of next month.

I know there are several of you chiff-folk in the area, and I'd love to meet/play some tunes while I'm there. I should have the evenings of November 15, 16, and 17 more-or-less free.

Anybody want to play?

Tom

Sorry for the long delay on replying, Tom - I don't know about sessions those nights (the few sessions I've been to have all been house sessions), but I'd enjoy getting together.

Are you staying in the downtown/convention center Marriot, or one of the others? If you're downtown, we've a pretty good selection of places we can meet close by.

There is (or maybe was ) a great session put on by Justine and Bob from the SF pipers club at a pizza parlor near moffet field off the 101. Don't know if its still going, but it was really nice, low key and lots of fun. Check the SF pipers website

Hi there,

Well, there is a big session in downtown San Jose on Tuesdays & Sunday evenings and a small slow session in Palo Alto (pipers' club hosted session) on Tuesday evenings also (see www.sfpipersclub.org) . Both of those sessions I think are more geared toward beginners although I believe the San Jose one gets a variety of skill levels there.

There are also sessions in San Francisco at the Plough & Stars on Tuesdays and Sundays, usually pretty good. I don't really play out these days cause the baby is a horrible sleeper but if anyone wants to host a get-together at an early hour I will try and show up if y'all let me know about it.

Have a good trip if I don't see you & hope you find some tunes!

Justine

Whew, I was starting to think djm was right. It is always deeply disturbing when that happens.

Looks like the local sessions are on nights when I won't be there. Maybe some of us can get together. Like I said, I'll have thursday, friday, and saturday night free, so whatever works.

Oh, and I'm staying at the convo center Marriot. I'm really just doing this trip because the hotel has a hot tub and a coffeemaker in every room.

Barring unexpected business trips (happens) I can meet up with you on any of the 3 nights, so whatever works best for you & anyone else local who wants to join in should be OK for me. I pass about 3 blocks west every day going to/from work, so it's pretty easy

Downtown SJ isn't quite San Francisco, but there's a pretty good assortment of decent restaurants (and a few decent pubs & brewpubs) within walking distance, and an even better assortment within 5 minutes by car. Or, for Saturday night, there's the home BBQ option.

(bated breath as we wait to see if the winter whistle party is moved to Nov 17 to celebrate WyoBadge's visit]

I would certainly like to meet the Badge even though my whistling is sore neglected from all the other music I do..

Well, should we shoot for that Saturday, then?

Sometime between now and then, you all can decide on a venue where we can get together (remembering that I'll be depending on foot/bus/subway/hitchhiking/carjacking).

And Weeks, don't worry about those dust-gathering whistles. I'm sure you could work in whatever instrument(s) you've been working on. No session should be without a ukelele and jaw harp, after all.

Sounds like fun!

Tom

p.s. just kidding about the carjacking. Really.

I can make it that Saturday. Daytime would be best for us, then we can bring the bb. You thinking of making the trek down here, Weeks?

Dunno if we can shoot for the full winter party attendence this short a time after the September Chez Higgins blowout, but we can maybe do the house session thing.

Just let me clear it with my long-suffering better half & try to make sure I'm not traveling that weekend.

I won't be done with bizzness until around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. I could possibly scoot out a bit earlier, but probably shouldn't. :)
