Except that she really cannot sing.
Are we sure? I guess I haven't heard anything but the heavily synthesized mp3 versions of Toxic, and such.

My brother always proposed subjecting heavily made-up and bejeweled women to the dip-test. Dipped in a tank of water--all the extra stuff washed off--how would she look?

Has Britney experienced the vocal version of the dip-test?

Betty Page did it.

It seems to me that most of these stars reflect the guardianship and “village” that surrounded them, sometimes good reflections, sometimes not. Perhaps without money, they would be the same.

I don't know, but they are the kind of people who didn't object to seeing their little girl turned into a sex object for money.

Yeah, especially since Britney's younger sister is working her way up the fame and fortune ladder as well. Seems to me that they really don't care, so long as the money is pouring in. I mean, with all the problems that Britney has had, you'd think they would have at least thought twice about allowing another daughter to expose herself (ahem..) in the same arena. It really is a shame.

So MTV--which I used to defend when the worse behavior they engaged in was to show, you know, Def Leppard videos on Christmas Eve--and now is a shameless cash cow that exploits every base voyeuristic impulse young people have. They had to know she wasn't ready for this show and yet (or SO) they cranked up the hype, went for the big ratings, and the train derails. It's all decidedly uncool.

Dale

As a voyeuristic and impulsive young person, I agree with you. Actually, I find myself to disagree more and more with youth culture, it has become something ridiculous. When someone is worshipped for idiocy (a la Tom Green, Jackass) and, well, shall we say skanky-ness, as opposed to proper accomplishments (the kind that take effort), well, what is the appeal of that. Needless to say, I don't watch much MTV.

Quite... I believe too, that it´s a myth. I think one should try to learn from other peoples misstakes instead - one simply haven´t time to make them all oneself!

I can´t quite work out if this is a joke or if it´s for real.
