Now there's a good point.

What matters in a teacher is whether they are a good person and a good teacher - and what they teach.
Exactly, that's why I said "I don't think it's very professional, though that's probably just old-fashioned prejudices." Really I don't know why I think of it that way, except that's how I was raised (well, my parents taught me not to care whether people had tattoos or not (or earrings, dyed hair, etc.), but it just wasn't present in our family). Didn't mean to offend. But I don't think tattoos should be a factor in choosing a teacher, because teachers can be good or bad regardless.

You didn't offend. Just triggered a line of thought.

What about a teacher who has lots of plastic surgery and modifies her or his appearance significantly? I just had that thought. Like tattoos, but perhaps more drastic, plastic surgery is body modification.

Being honest, I'm not sure I'd want this lady teaching my children:

Good point.

Personally, I see tattoos being closer to make-up than to cosmetic surgery, with piercings being somewhere between the two, but closer to tattoos than to CS.

All very subjective judgments, I'm sure.

By the way, I am afraid of that picture.

Personally, I like the idea of a dress code for teachers and with the exception of the hands and face, most tattoos would not be visible.

I somehow doubt that this guy wants a teaching job.

I don't see why you would need rules covering plastic surgery, even if you thought that someone who looked like MJ would be unsuitable as a teacher, which I don't. Kids can be very cruel and would mock someone who'd had bad plastic surgery mercilessly. People like that would surely elect not to teach.

Boy, MJs anorexic nose really creeps me out. Sometimes plastic surgeons should just say no.

Interesting. I just saw an ad for a game show which reminded me of this thread.
Here's an article about it:

What would make someone want to look like that?
Rhetorical question. Don't answer or we'll be toying with psychology.

Drat! I'd been looking for that!

Cran, where did you find the Euro? I scoured my laptop keyboard for it and drew a blank.

You effectively completed my post for me. Thank you. :D
