Another nice one B.D.
I do like Lorenna Mckennitt.

This one's my favorite - but then, I already loved the poem for the line "on burnished hooves his warhorse trode" (gotta paint that sometime)

Can't stand McKennitt.

Here's a couple of white groups who were successful at sounding black:

Yes, you keep harping on that

Here is my favorite Loreena McKennit, "The Dark Night of the Soul". I had heard that phrase before, but assumed it was something totally negative. Her lyrics are taken from writings of a mystic named St. John of the Cross (which is where the phrase came from?) This song got me curious about St. John of the Cross and Christian mysticism in general.

This You-Tube version doesn't have anything to look at, just the title.
Since it's about the Dark Night of the Soul, shouldn't it be a black screen?

I saw this bunch play last week at our local 4th festivities. We ended up sitting through a bluegrass band to hear the Spencer family's second set.
That's when I finally realized how to express the difference in bluegrass and old time music. People sit and watch and listen to bluegrass and are amazed.
People git up and DANCE when old time is played. They have to, there is no other choice.

Let's get Malo: http://youtube.com/watch?v=EwmtbLJdKvI

There's a tune I could never make out the words to, didn't learn the name of it or the group that played it, so I can't find it. It comes up in the back of my head sometimes. Maybe you can recognize it from this (poorly hashed together) bit of ABC:

X:1
T:Thingy
R:Jazzier than I know how to notate
M:4/4
Q:1/4=120
L:1/8
K:G
G,2 D/2 G D2 G,>D G D :| <- bit of bass line
d d d d3 c c/2 c d e e/2 e f | d8 :|
e3 g =f4 e d e =f g e/2 =f g a4 :|
G G2 E D z BB GG AA GG A G2 E D2 z2 |
d c B c/2 B4 B c d/2 e2 d4 |
B B/2B/2 B B/2B/2 A A/2A/2 A A/2c/2 |
B B/2B/2 B B/2B/2 A A/2A/2 A A c B4 c4 d4 g4 |

Anyone recognize it/have a name for it?

Thx,

djm
