Planxty - Live 2004.

Post by dubhlinn »

Well some nights I pick a track here and there.

Other nights I play it from start to finish.

Tonight I played it through..then went for the repeats.

How four guys can make that sound is a wonder to behold.

And many a poor man that has roved,
Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

I concur 100%. The other thing is, these guys had become, let's say, a little older than they were 30 years ago, but for the most part they sounded as good or better. I'll never tire of that Planxty (or Sweeny's) sound with the percussive interplay of the mandolin and bouzouki.

I had the privilege of seeing Andy a couple of times in the early 80's. He's kind of like a band of his own -- amazing musician.

It's a very fine concert. I love that band.

I think Andy Irvine is coming to Aus soon; I must check to make sure I don't miss him.

Planxty makes a fine backing band for Liam O'Flynn, but I can't stand any of them but O'Flynn solo.

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.
