May want to make this a sticky for those who ask the same questions on how to play Irish flute.

Love this guy's manner. What a great contribution! Note that there is a whole series of 2- to 3-minute vids below the featured one in the link.

If you are new or intermediate, you'll find something here that will help.

Cheers!

No, no, no. The Jujitsu advertiser is in Woodland Hills.

David Cantieni, a contradance player, is in West Deerfield, MA. He has been in the groups Wild Asparagus, Swallowtail, has his own CD: http://www.wildasparagus.com/david1.html

My office is just over the hill in Encino.

Im still quite the n00b but if I don't start finding other players I'll never really learn well.

I think its that way at any rate.

I'd be happy just to sit-in, listen and watch.

Besides ITM seem made for getting together. I feel like I'm missing a key component.

drink a cup of tea to practice good tone! not before playing my antique.... next he'll be telling people to eat a hamburger to get good rhythm!

some good videos there, but please, respect your flute!

for a brief span i used to not brush my teeth in the morning as i would get up straight away and play the flute; the funky smell that inhabited my silver flute took many months to extinguish.

Yes indeed -

I know this fellow well. I have taken lessons from him, and spent some time with him and his family on various occasions. He is a talented musician, in a broad range of styles. He's one of few I know who can truly make an oboe sound beautiful, and yet he can bring down the house at a contradance getting down and dirty with his bombard. Check out his album (link above)!

nice to see him play a wooden flute.
i have a few of there Cd's, and always thought the tone was too bright from a wooden flute.
i too, love a sound of the Bombard, and often wondered what it would do to one embouchure, but Skelton (SP)
plays both as well.
Catski - have you ever talked to him about that? i really want to get a bombard but don't even know where to begin my search, all ebay has, are those cheap Pakistani' ones with no clue as to what key they play in.

Jean-Michel Veillon played bombarde before taking up the flute and still plays it from time to time. Michael Tubridy plays some bombarde too. I'm sure there are others.

Once I heard David Cantieni and Mark Roberts play dual bombards- fairly frightening (and appropriately so, given the instrument's origin). I'm fairly certain the plural of bombard is actually bombast. Also, this was down in the Carribean, as I'm also fairly certain such a grouping would be illegal in the states!
