Post by anniemcu »

For about the last 4 days, I've been having trouble getting pages to load, things look weird about a 1/4 of the time, and posting ends up with error pages a lot of the time. Just here on C&F.

Frustrating.

Hotmail's been weird this week. I figured it was because I'm still in the dark ages and using dial-up. Wonder if the weather back east has anything to do with this?

We don't have weather out here...we just have SNOW :P

Yes, I've been having trouble too, and quite frankly it's driving me nuts. It takes forEVER to load and then post. Makes getting my post count up really difficult ;)

I find this goes through phases. Lately I have been getting a new error page sometimes saying the site is not currently available. I wonder if the server owners are loading new software, or are moving the C&F page to alternate servers. That could cause things to act up a bit until they figure it all out.

Then again, it could just be me ..... :boggle:

nah - I'm getting it too.

I just hit refresh when the error page comes up, and all if fine. But it is taking forever for responses to load - so I'll walk away now and come back in a bit.......

Same here. Board looks weird or doesn't load at all. I keep getting a message saying the server is overloaded.

Yes, I have problems from time to time. When it happens, it seems that ALL of the Chiff boards are affected.

WHAT WHAT HUH OH HI

Sorry, I haven't been watching here closely lately, I've been off work. :-)

There was one day when Dreamhost was throttling our site while they were tracking down a problem on the server, because we're the busiest site there and that's the first thing they look for. That's happened a couple of times, though, so they've now put a note on my account that basically says "even though it's busy, it's probably not the problem site you're looking for".

But then again, if they were looking for a problem site, then the board would be running slow then anyhow, because of the problem site. The wonders of shared hosting. All resolved by now, AFAIK.

(That shortened post title has nothing to do with that, though -- post titles have always been limited to 60 characters.)

That I figured.

Thanks for the info on the likely trouble cause, though. :)
