Now THAT made me laugh. Thank you, Tony.

(I just got thinking - about three years ago my daughter was taking some sort of computer/internet class in high school and had to create a web page. For some reason I still can't fathom she created an entire Tom Jones web page, complete with flaming hips. It was great!)

Hi Doc,I second,or third?,'The ash grove'-Harry Bradley's latest album,'As i carelessly did stray'has a great version of this tune(and also a fantastic, albeit non welsh,'The prettymaid milking her cow').You could of course stick with the Tom Jones' material, and become the worlds' first whistler to have women throw their panties at!- altogether now; "you don't have to be beautiful..."!!

Terry Jones. Not only funny in comedy shows and films but the funniest host of world history documentaries I've seen.On 2002-10-09 18:26, Whitmores75087 wrote:

But he's still not as funny as TOM Jones...
Oh, and on topic, All Through the Night is Welsh...
edited just to say that

As a regular visitor to Wales, I can say you couldn't be more wrong. They laugh a lot, but what they're talking about I wouldn't know coz Cymraeg is about as incomprehensible as a language can get.On 2002-10-09 18:26, Whitmores75087 wrote:

Regarding tunes, try "Ffoles Llantrisant" (The Foolish Girl from Llantrisant) - it's a lively jig (as are many Welsh tunes).

- Tell us something.: I used to be a regular then I took up the bassoon. Bassoons don't have a lot of chiff. Not really, I have always been a drummer, and my C&F years were when I was a little tired of the drums. Now I'm back playing drums. I mist the C&F years, though.

There are a handful of Welsh tunes in Robin Williamson's book English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish Fiddle Tunes. I can't vouch for them. Some of his versions of Irish tunes are a bit odd. There has been a great Welsh band that has appeared a couple of times at the festival in Goderich, Ontario. Their music is quite different from most of the othe music from Celtic lands that I've heard. I guess it's most similar to Breton music than Scottish or Irish though. One member plays an interesting hornpipe (instrument, not dance tune). Lots of vocals I can't understand. Here's their web site. http://www.carreglafar.co.uk/

Well, one half-holing ain't so bad. Sometimes the tune is worth it (and I think The Ash Grove is). OTOH, one can also finger around the F nat...playing a bit of ornamentation or just staying on the G for all three notes, if one's half-holing is shakey.
Speaking of hymns, yes indeed...some of my favorite hymn tunes are Welsh. Hyfrydol ("Alleluia, Sing to Jesus" or "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling") is very easy on the whistle, and sounds quite pretty. Cwm Rhondda is also pretty easy, but does't translate to the whistle sound quite as well.
