Warmest wishes to Karen and to you. My son had pneumonia a few months ago and I was worried in a whole new way about him, even though his case was mild. He's very much back to normal and I hope that very soon Karen will be too.
Update:
Karen is still slowly improving, but the infection is worse than they thought. It turns out the bulk of the strep infection is in the chest cavity outside the lung, where the intravenous antibiotics do no good. They're planning to go in surgically today or tomorrow to try and clean it out. Please keep your fingers crossed that all goes well. Thanks.

Karen's surgery went well. Now the slow recovery begins; barring any setbacks, she'll spend 4 or 5 more days in the hospital, followed by 3 weeks of rest at home.
