SNOW

SNOW!

I went to school today. The power was out and the emergency lights were on. Then CPS called and let us out for the day. And that's my story.

We started with rain then sleet then freezing rain now a light wet snow. No big deal but the public schools all closed for some reason.
I'm no longer trying a new posting paradigm

OK, Call me crazy, but I'm quite jealous.
I want snow. Yesterday it was 65 degrees (F), and today it's in the 50's and raining.
They say maybe snow on Monday, but it's not what you folks out west have been seeing.
<Sigh>

No snow here yet, but I'm grateful that it got icy-cold first before any freezing rain could fall. Irksome to the driver as heavy snows may be, icy roads are suckier by far. One time we had a mongo freezing rain followed by a deep freeze that lasted three months. Most of the roads were covered in a thick plank of rock-hard ice all that time; all you could do was to keep sanding the roads and hope for the best, and for Spring weather worth the name.

11.5 inches here, according to NWS. Really fun shovelling out my driveway. Especially at the foot where the plows plowed it in and it was like 3 - 3 1/2 feet deep.

See, I look at it differently: It's an excuse to "Work from home".

(me on the phone to my boss): "Yeah, sorry -- but I'm snowed in here. I'm afraid I won't be able to make it in today. Tomorrow either. Yeah, I'll work from home. Assuming my cable doesn't go out ... See you next week."

(minutes later) "... OK kids, lets go make an Igloo!!"

We have had a little snow the past week, here in Portland, OR, but not much. I think snow is fun.

We had "snow" a few weeks ago. That is, it was snow until it reached about eye-level, at which point is was most decidedly rain. It was some very ucky weather.

Foot and a half of snow, gale-force winds, power's been out since Sunday, roads are just silly, waterline busted, no gas station to refuel the generator, and so cold we burned 2 months worth of firewood in 7 days. This was a 10-year storm: the last one was 1996.

The power's back on (for now), and the hot tub is warming up nicely!
Happily tooting when my dogs let me.

A touch of Irving Berlin anyone? :)

Snow
It won't be long before we'll all be there with snow
Snow
I want to wash my hands, my face and hair with snow

Snow
I long to clear a path and lift a spade of snow
Snow
Oh, to see a great big man entirely made of snow

Where it's snowing
All winter through
That's where I want to be
Snowball throwing
That's what I'll do
How I'm longing to ski
Through the snow-oh-oh-oh-oh

Well, perhaps not ....

I'd rather be atop the foothills than beneath them.

Perhaps folks are more in the mood for some Ezra Pound --
Ancient Music

Winter is icummen in,
Lhude sing Goddamm.
Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
Sing: Goddamm.

Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
An ague hath my ham.
Freezeth river, turneth liver,
Damn you, sing: Goddamm.

Goddamm, Goddamm, 'tis why I am, Goddamm,
So 'gainst the winter's balm.

Sing goddamm, damm, sing Goddamm.
Sing goddamm, sing goddamm, DAMM.
Crazy for the blue white and red
Crazy for the blue white and red
And yellow fringe
Crazy for the blue white red and yellow

Y'know, I've always liked this song in White Christmas, but I did shudder a bit when I was watching the movie last night and it came on.....

I'm with Ezra on this one. Apart from when I've got skis strapped on, I've hated snow since I got a drivers licence.
