Flook USA tour with McGoldrick

Post by rh »

According to the latest email update from Flook:
Dates for the USA tour in March 2007 are being added all the time, and we're very pleased to announce that Sarah's replacement for this tour (due to maternity leave) will be our original band member and good friend, Michael McGoldrick.
Hmmm... i might just try to make the Savannah GA St Pat's Day show....
there is no end to the walking

Yeah, it won't be the same without Sarah but it will be good to see Michael McG. I just hope they book a gig closer to Philadelphia. :D

Thanks for the update guys. I note at the site that there's a scheduled Sunday March 11, 2007 appearance at Ulysses - a large new restaurant/pub, at 58 Stone St. at Hanover Sq. All we "downstaters" should get there - Tom, Bloomie. ...?

If it were any further down state, that place would be in Staten Island. Sunday is awkward for me, but I am generally interested.

Even though I am all the way in MA, I may try to make it down for that since it is the closest out of all the dates. Of course that means a $35 bus ticket to NYC.

Unseen122 - I'm in Chestnut Hill / Newton, MA and I'm definitely not going to want to miss seeing Flook on this upcoming tour. I was thinking of either going to the gig in NYC or Manchester, NH (which I think might be closer for me at least). but of course it all depends on public transportation, so it's whatever I can get to work.

cheers,
Sara :)

I'll be surprised if they don't add at least one date here in Mass, but it's happened before I guess. Would be nice if they'd book the Somerville theater though.

I'm certainly very surprised that Mike is doing a tour with flook again, I wonder if they'll use new material. Would be nice if they do the same in the UK too.

Somerville's easy enough to get to. I could go for that. do you know if they've ever played at Johnny D's? (that's the only place I've been to in Somerville.)

Boston to NYC is quite a trip. I am in Great Barrington which is a lot closer, and I know it is a $35 bus ticket. Hopefully they will add a date in Mass. Maybe if any of the Albany or Adams people (they know who they are) decide to go I can hitch a ride as I am not that out of the way, especially if they take Taconic Parkway.

Yeah, NYC is too far for me to travel for a show. We'll see what happens.

Sara, sorry, I don't recall where Flook have played in MA the last few years. I imagine you've been out to see Shannon Heaton play? She's the Da Bomb.

I actually haven't seen Shannon play. I met her and saw Matt play with Laura Cortese and the Boston Urban Ceilidh, but she wasn't playing that evening. I've only been out here for a couple months, so hopefully I'll have the opportunity to hear her before too long!

cheers,
Sara

Sara, the Heatons have a website with their tour/gig dates:

http://www.eatsrecords.com/

They also have some MP3's up there, as well as on their myspace page (if you're into flute listen to the Thady Casey's set clip):

Looks like they're in Oregon, Nebraska, and Kansas for the rest of the month, and then back here to play at UMass Boston on Nov. 30.

Tell us something.: I play the first flute Jon Cochran ever made but haven't been very active on the board the last 9-10 years. Life happens I guess...I owned a keyed M&E flute for a while and I kind of miss it.

I wish I lived on the east coast--maybe I'll get lucky and they will come further west...

Sarah, Flook played the Burren on a cold Wednesday night in January a few years ago, and I think they have been there several times. A good place to check for last minute shows. Steve Brown
