Just wanted to say ...

Post by Jerry Freeman »

I've probably said this before, but it comes to mind often.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to be spending so much time in the world of pennywhistles. Such great people, such a pleasant focus.

What triggered this little soliloquy is this feedback from an eBay customer:
I love my penny whistle. Makes me happy.
It's just a bit of pipe with six holes, doncha know.

Magic.

Best wishes,
Jerry

You may find this surprising, but I have never once received a note from a student saying, "I love my grammar and composition textbook. It makes me happy." No accounting for tastes, eh?

Jerry, you bring much good spirit to your work, to this board, and I imagine to all whose lives you touch. I'm so glad you have found your place in the whistling world!

Tell us something.: Long ago, I was told that I faked iTrad whistle work very well. I took that comment to heart. 20 years of private lessons - and many, many hours of rehearsal later - I certainly hope I have improved...

I too have been enriched by the world of whistles, and by your place in it, Jerry.

Best to all on a crisp October evening.

You're a big part of what makes this a great place, Jerry. I still chuckle and think of you whenever I hear someone mention the word spacer. :)

My first two whistles:
1. Freeman Tweaked Sweetone D. I figured I would see if I liked this whistling thing.
2. Freeman Tweaked Shaw D. I knew I liked this whistling thing.
Though I've bought a few other whistles over the years, I still play the Sweetone and Shaw once in a while.

Thanks for giving so many of us a leg-up.
Daniel

It's my opinion - highly regarded (and sometimes not) by me. Peace y'all.

When I'm at home a Jerry-tweaked is nearly always within reach and often in hand and mouth. I'm glad you enjoy tweaking them because I sure enjoy playing them.

Good luck, Jerry, and thanks.

My favorite whistle: a Jerry Freeman tweaked Clarke original. :D

Tweak on!
I conceive that great part of the miseries of mankind are brought upon them by the false estimates they have made of the value of things, and by their giving too much for their whistles. -Ben Franklin

I have to agree... both with Mr. Freeman, and with those who have his work... This is a great place that I would be hard pressed to do without, and I love my Jerry Tweeked MellowDog.

If I were a rich one, I'd have more of his work... and Pauls, and Davids, and Phil's, and Bill's, and Chuck's, and Stacey's, and Colin's, and on and on and on (not even getting into the recordings!!) .... I love whistles, whistling and this great community of whistlers!

I am constantly stunned by Jerry's grip on positive values.

This is also evident in his work. The Mellow Dog is a truly iconic whistle - a real stand-out in the low-mid-price range.
All the best!

Have to agree with Annie, the Freeman tweaked Mellow Dog is my favorite too. That's the first one I really liked. Also have an Irvine tweaked Feadog, a wooden one (brand unknown) and a WhistleSmith.
Each one has their special tone, to me, but Jerry's tweaked Mellow Dog is the only one I can reach most of the second octave on. Still haven't been able to reach the B and A, second octave.
Thanks, Jerry, for a fine whistle!
