Nice Rack - Maybe

Post by dfernandez77 »

Ok, here's what I did. I bought this bar for hanging things - it's 48" long.

I make the little hook things. I hang the whistles by the bottom hole.

The pics show the few (low A and below) I have hung so far. Has anyone tried something like this before? Think it's a good idea?

I think I would cover the bottom half of the hook with a protective sleeve of somekind, perhaps rubber, or maybe even wind some black electical tape around it a few times; to provide some cushioning...you wouldn't want the hook to scratch up your toneholes.

tool-dip would probably work great for protectiong from metal-on-metal scratches. I wonder if it'd be safe to do wood this way, though. Neat idea!

Yes, and it's not just a matter of possible scratching: Hanging whistles like that will eventually lead to notches forming in the tone hole where the hanger makes contact with the hole edge. Also, wooden whistles should NEVER be hung or stored like this, regardless of whether or not the hanger it self is cusioned in some way.

Now you've got me wondering what a tool-dipped whistle would sound like.

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.

Nice topic, but I am surprised the title has not attracted Mr. Amar as of yet!!! :o

Not for whistles but I use these for my flutes when I've got more than one out.

The fun part about this rack is that all that interesting condensation would come dripping back towards its source... blechh! Something in me wants to drain my whistles towards the bottom end.

Here's the final implementation. I keep a few Overton, Copeland, and Reyburn whistles in their bags on the shelf above the rack.

Works out pretty well so far.
