I used to suck (a habit that crept over from my saxophone playing), but I found it rather ineffective. Blowing works much better.

I refuse to answer on the grounds of: "Dude, seriously..."

For some reason, once something has left my mouth I don't like to put it back there again. I'm sure there are exceptions, but this isn't one of them.

Maybe it's just me, but, the windways in my whistles sometimes develop a dark growth that needs to be cleaned out with a piece of business card. Seeing what comes out with a cleaning, I NEVER suck moisture from the windway. Gives me the willies to think of it.

Okay, I'm going to answer this seriously. I didn't vote, cause I do both. Blow between tunes, but if I have to clear the windway in mid-tune I suck.

Same here. And if you floss your whistles, you won't have scary beasties!

Since I happened onto the trick of flossing the windway with waxed dental floss, I haven't really had any clogging problems where I'd have to do either.

That said, till now I've always sucked to clear the windway.

If you blow, you're trying to dry off the windway with moisture-laden air from your lungs.

If you suck, you're pulling in the much dryer air from the room around you.

Just seems to make more sense to me.

I also keep an eye on my whistles and try to clean them before any brown mold shows up. Blech.

A friend of mine likes to tease me about the "final note" that I play at the end of every song...meaning the quick suck I give to the fipple to clear it out. lol.
