That's interesting. I thought the same thing when Cran said "friend". If you preface "friend" with "my" then it's not so bad. The same holds with "buddy" or "bud". Once Amar send me a PM and said "buddy" and it took me a second to realise that he didn't mean it in a "face-rearranging competition" sort of way.
