Britney Spears

Why is she so famous? Is it her singing? I mean her no disrespect, but it sounds very unnatural to me... like a robot or something.

I agree. Britney has been in the business for most of her life, starting out in the big time on WDW's Mousekateers show. But once she grew beyond cute kid to pretty teen/adult, I feel that her talent had pretty much been tapped. Still, the business thought they could make oodles of cash from her yet, so they dressed her up in stripper's clothing and marketed her to teens everywhere.... and it worked.

Perhaps the business is loathe to get rid of a money maker, no matter how talented (or not) they may be. And there have been loads of other examples since.

Since when have the likes of Sony BMG Music Entertainment given a rat's 'arris about talent? It's all about the money. They'll happily spend a few million in hype and advertising to reap a few tens of millions in revenue. In the past, they've even gone so far as to create a fake critic to tout their own wares to the unsuspecting public.

The key word being "was".

This kind of think sickens me when there's so much real talent.

living in california years ago, we had a very talented friend who was a singer/songwriter. She was always trying to get something going.

My other friend's husband, however, told us she'd never "make it"

Reason: not good looking enough.

What's nutty, she can't even hit the right notes. She used pitch correctors in the studio and on stage to correct her mistakes.

Techically it's amazing what they can do, however the folks who need it are those I wouldn't listen to in the first place. Although there are days when I could use one at the session. :D

The problem you'll find, if you watch a little American Idol, is that
there's so much ugly talent. A passable voice will be accepted if it is
accomanied by a pretty face and large bust. Many gorgeous voices
come out of plain mouths, and apparantly no one wants that... so we
get Milli Vanilli.

Apparantly, Paris Hilton is attempting a music carreer. Everytime
someone plays a clip of her first song, it's followed with derision, so
maybe there's hope yet. Supposedly, producers had to layer her voice
over and over to get it not to sound so thin. It's in tune, but still pretty
lame... like Gwyn Stefani sucked a bunch of helium.

All I have to say about her is:
"Ewwww"
I have never been attracted to her anymore than I am attracted to Paris Hilton. No matter how much makeup they put on, no matter who does their hair or picks their clothes, they look trashy to me. I've never been into pop music anyways but I can still appreciate talent when I see it and she definitely has no talent... maybe dance, I'll give her that but I think almost anyone can learn the choreographed stuff that she does with enough practice.

As opposed to the concept of having higher and higher benchmarks, Britney represents a lower benchmark of mainstream culture. She seems like a white trash princess, as far as I can tell.

Put it all together with the butt tattoos, the objectification of women, the lichen culture and she fits right in.
How do you prepare for the end of the world?
