I have also been playing a year and I thought I was doing terribly with my meagre list of known (as in by memory) tunes (and songs) . Now I don't feel quite so badly.

So far:
Donnybrook Fair
Kesh Jig
Off to California
Out On the Ocean
Jim Ward's
Maggie in the Wood
Shi Big Shi More

For Ireland I'll Not Say Her Name
Foggy Dew
Ashoken Farewell
Gile Mear
Boolavogue
Parting Glass
South Wind
Shenadoah

Ones I have learned by ear and therefore do not have to memorize, but I KNOW them!

Amazing Grace
Auld Lang Syne
My Love is Like a Red Red Rose
Red Is the Rose
Simple Gifts
Song of Joy

Close:

Planxty Irwin
Blarney pilgrim

Yes, I'm reading them. Since I never did compile a list of my own, I'm using them to jog my memory. Tomorrow I'm planning to remind myself of all the tunes I haven't played in a while and start keeping my own list current. It's awful when the session leader looks at you and says "What tunes do you know?" and your mind comes up blank.

Yup, I read them...as a relatively new player I found it interesting to see what others were learning.

Tell us something.: You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

I couldn't catalogue the number of songs and tunes I have committed to memory. I mostly know hymns and Gospel music, and a few old ballad tunes and folk songs. But I don't have too many jigs, hornpipes and fiddle tunes in general memorized.

Peter, you know Teddy Bear's Picnic? Is that the version played by Micho Russel or Seamus Ennis? Either way, would you be so kind as to post a transcription of it when you get the chance?

Ok you smart guys who know so many tunes....this may sound like piddlewash to you, but for those of us who are new, knowing a number of tunes is big stuff.

Some day, when I have been playing long enough to know too many tunes to list, I won't list them either. I assume you're just 'funnin', but it comes across like a put down of the newbies.
