Broccoli
Olive oil
Garlic (lots, then more)
Romano cheese (fresh grated, if you can get it)
Pepper, red pepper, salt

Saute the broccoli and garlic lightly in olive oil. Toss some more oil in with the cooked pasta, then top with the garlic and broccoli. Cheese and seasonings to taste.

Oh yes, wine. Then more.

Well, sure, if you're allowed to use butter on it anything is good!

My wife likes broccoli with vinegar.
Recently I have had the long skinny Chinese broccoli and thought that it was a nice change. Something different about the flavor.

This works very well with broccoli rabe (the bitter stuff). Add cherry tomatoes and use oriecchetti. Chianti.

No butter rules, I am very lenient.

I am just glad I didn't go out for a Big Mac and Fries.

I'm not sure, I never pay attention to the price. Maybe around $1.70 a lb? If you buy crowns only the cost is a little higher, that's what I buy, it saves me from having to chop off the stalk and throw it out.

Ok. I will buy some tonight. I only have like $9 so I wasn't sure how much it cost, and I have to buy kool aid and cereal too (the staples of my summer diet). :P

Eschew the dull, factory-produced calabrese and grow your own purple sprouting broccoli. A different experience altogether. When you've feasted on this most generous of home-grown crops for two or three months every spring you will never want to go back to that tasteless green cumulus-on-a-stalk. No fancy dressings needed - just steam, unsalted, for eight minutes and eat with mashed spuds and dry-cured bacon. Manna. You're a bit late for this year though!

quick and simple:
mix and heat condensed cheddar & cream of mushroom soups, with only enough chicken broth to make into a gravy consistency. Alternately, marsala can be substituted for broth.
blanche broccoli florets 3-4 mins in boiling water to bring out color, but not enough to wilt.

Cover broccoli with cheddar/mushroom sauce

Don't ditch the stalks! Slice'em thin and sautee them along with the tops. They're wonderful.

Not traditional, but I usually drizzle EV olive oil on broccoli and nuke them until they're just shy of crispy. They stay nice and bright green in the microwave. I always make too much on purpose and put more EV olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the leftovers and eat them cold the next day.
Cauliflower, brussels sprouts, etc also taste good this way.

Do you all eat broccoli on the table without a plate like SteveShaw does?

Mix 1 c of milk, some salt, pepper, and 1 Tbsp of corn starch. Nuke, stirring every 30 sec or so, till it all boils and thickens. Let cool for a minute or so, then add 4 oz of really really sharp cheddar; nuke, stirring frequently, till the cheese is completely incorporated and the whole thing boils again.

Steam some broccoli to taste. Pour the cheese sauce over it.

Beyond that, I like the lightly steamed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and any sort of stir-fry with broccoli.

I bought some broccoli. I paid $1.98 for it. I also bought Italian salad dressing (I'm easy to please).

Put a handful of washed broccoli florets in a bowl.

Pour yourself a glass of Glenmorangie -- Sherry finish is nice.

Eat the broccoli.

Brush your teeth.

Rinse and spit.

Drink the Scotch.
