Because im chasing my dream of moving to Co.Clare and maybe settling down there, i turned down a job yesterday as plant electrical tech. with a certain well known producer of a well known brand of stout in Dublin!
Its a very well paid job with lots of benefits. AM I NUTS?
Listen to me young fellow, what need is there for fish to sing when i can roar and bellow?

Yes... that would be, for me, a dream job. But then, there's Co. Clare... tough call buddy.

No. Not silly. They may have decided you are the right person for them.
You have to decide whether they are the right people for you.
Your priorities are not their priorities.
It does go against the grain to turn down a job offer. For most of us the offers are not so plentiful. But the memory of this offer should be a boost to your confidence.

And you don't get what you want by accepting the first offer to come along.

Best of luck, Flanum.

I've told my kids I don't care if you are a ditch digger or a college professor - do what makes you HAPPY!
My dad hated his job. For the first 18 years of his life, it colored everything. When he was laid off, and forced to change "careers" (if you call sheet metal work to a school custodian careers) it was the best thing that ever happened to him.

Go with your heart.

Sometimes you have to follow your heart, other times the wallet leads the way.
Discussing politics is like having a conversation with the ex. You know that no matter what the subject....it could be as innocent as what you had to eat for lunch....you know that they are going to somehow work your past sins into the conversation

Missy, my parents told me the same thing. But they tagged on the line that its a lot easier to be happy as a doctor than as a ditch digger.

A college professor once told me to get a career to make money so I could afford to do what I really wanted.

But Robert Frost said:
But yield who will to their separation
My object in life is to unite
My Avocation with my Vocation,
As my two eyes make one in sight.
Only where love and need are one,
And the work is play for mortal stakes
Is the deed ever truly done
For Heaven and the Future's sakes.
Remember, you didn't get the tiger so it would do what you wanted. You got the tiger to see what it wanted to do. -- Colin McEnroe

Benefits? Did the benefits you've rejected include...oh my God... unlimited free stout? :o

Maybe I'll see you in Dublin next week to advise you on your next move...

Cheers!
