Be careful you don't make squirrels mad!
We have a lot of squirrels around my house, and they can make trouble for us, sometimes, chewing through things and stuff, but I've never seen the likes of this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4489792.stm

I think this calls for more research into squirrel behavior, such as this:

I'll never forget the time when a neighborhood cat was stalking a squirrel in our backyard - I saw the cat doing its commando thing, slinking through the grass toward the seemingly unsuspecting squirrel. The next thing I saw through the window was the cat running in horror as the squirrel chased after it. The look on the cat's face was priceless.

our furry birds (aka squirrels) broke our bird feeder numerous times. It had glass on both sides, and they wanted specific grains (they would NOT eat the cracked corn), so they kept whacking at it to break into it.
I was in the kitchen once, and "caught" something out of the corner of my eye at the back window. I turned and watched a squirrel come into my view from below the window, then drop back down. He was using the rubbermaid garbage can below the window as a trampoline, bouncing on it and looking in the window!!!! Kept this up until I walked over to the window!
I think he was telling me he wanted me to fill the darn birdfeeder.........
I moved the birdfeeder to the front porch (we never used that porch - always came in the back) and moved it far enough from the edge that I thought the squirrels couldn't get it. I watch a squirrel hang from the gutter BY HIS TOES and swing back and forth until he could flip over onto the birdfeeder.
I have squirrels (although they tasted good breaded and fried in gravy).

One of my cats like to chase our squirrels. The squirrels know they can outrun her, so they aren't that scared of her. I guess I'd better make sure they're gettting plenty of food from the bird feeders and squirrel feeder though!
We had a couple of squirrels get in our basement before we had caps put on our chimneys. Boy, a terrified squirrel can just tear a place apart. One poor thing gnawed on the wood around the window pane, knocked all sorts of things over, and peed right in the middle of my ironing board. My husband put a wooden plank up to an open window and it found its way out. But one squirrel was injured by the trip down the chimney and that was awful. The chimney covers are best.
We'll have to look into that bird feeder, djm. We like squirrels, but they have their own feeder and they scare the birds away.
