They are 1" in diameter. Just bore it out wider and turn the exterior down to size, they're already round. I've purchased wood from them before, they have blanks in the Jumbo sizes.

The large "bowling ball blank" rods might work. They're 1"diam x 7"long which is JUST long enough for one of my D whistles with no room to spare on the body section. Suppose I could make the head 1/4" longer to allow a bit on the body for trimming. One problem with these polymers is that they're translucent which means that in a thin walled tube the brass tuning slide would probaby show through. Also bore irregularities, which sometimes occur when gundrilling plastics.

Nope-- sounds just the same.
Thanks, Paul. The reason I asked was because of this page, where similar whistles with different fipple materials are compared. It never really made sense to me that it should make such a noticable difference in sound. Your experiment suggests that something else is going on.
