Sorry, Joe, but I thought the proposed solution was a gallery page. This would keep all the wheat and block the chaff (or is it chiff?), as it were.

Huh? What have I said lately to make you believe it will be any different from what you're thinking?

I think djm actually prefers the chaff.

Well, there was this:

There are some nice PHP image gallery scripts available for free, and the one I know best has support for infinite galleries with sub-galleries, and every image can be commented. With some modifications, we even could link sound files to specific images (I could do that if the idea's accepted).

The gallery could be linked in a sticky thread in this forum.

If traffic doesn't exceed too much, I could host the gallery...

Thanks for the generous offer, but I think keeping within this forum will work out best, and also make it much easier to moderate.
This sounds to me like you do NOT want to use a photo gallery sfwr package linked with a sticky thread to this site. Thus my confusion. I was just trying to follow the conversation.

It is possible that my lack of knowledge about this sort of thing, has the both of us confused. If we do what you suggest, it will have to be OK'd by this sites' owner, Rich.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but I have to show off ;)

Was at Chris Bayley's workshop the other day for collecting my Bb set. It's just the chanter for now (poor students don't have money), drones to be added as fast as possible...

It's ebony, brass and imitation ivory. Fully keyed with seven keys (standard five with long Fnat + highD and highE). The tone is dark and mellow on the low notes and gets very sweet on the way up - simply beautiful.

The stretch is VERY comfortable. If you can handle a standard lowD whistle, you can handle this chanter - just the lowest hole might become a bit difficult, but I don't have very big hands and can handle it easily - a large-holed flute's more difficult.

Am having some trouble with the reed since it's still very new and needs to settle down - will post a clip on Clips&Snips when it's done.

But here are the pics (click on the thumbs for a big version):

Good for you Gabriel.

It's been 5 or six pages since someone actually posted a picture of their pipes.

I was going to suggest we change the name of the thread to "Talking about posting pictures of your pipes".

Nice chanter by the way. :)

Doc

Sorry, I don't have any pipes to post a picture of yet. But they're a comin'. :D

This is my D set made of Palo Blanco (I don´t know the name of the wood in english) with dark wood mounts, but the permanent mounts will be imitation ivory.

palo blanco == "white wood". :-)

Could be "Willard's Acacia"
http://ag.arizona.edu/pima/gardening/ar ... diana.html

or could be one of a number of boxwood substitutes

Yes bill, the litealr translation is white wood, but my next set will be in mahogany or guayacan cause this "acacia" picks up dirt quickly, so I had to apply several layers of thin barnish.
Thanks God for the opposite thumb.

It could very well be Willard's Acacia(Fabaceae family). The wood looks like our state tree Palo Verde(Fabaceae Parkinsonia) here in the Arizona desert. I have turned some Palo Verde wood to make some paper thin bowls on the lathe. I don't think Palo Verde wood would be suitable for the pipes because it is prone to crack, and is somewhat soft. It does have that nice yellow boxwood look though. I am sure Palo Blanco wood would be similar. The mounts look like Ironwood. Real Desert Ironwood is as hard or harder than ebony, and is in my opinion the most beautiful wood you could ever use for a set of pipes. It looks like amber combined with the tiger's eye stone when seen in person. The other part of the ironwood that is yellow, typically rots away and looks like boxwood. This could also be the wood in question. It does look like a desert wood was used and the mounts were made of Ironwood. Mesquite wood can also look like this. There are many desert woods that have a similar color to boxwood.
