Near here is Intercourse, Pa. - a more "proper" version of that town in Austria!

Fitting in with this time of year, there are some towns in Germany where kids can send in there Christkind-Wunschzettel (christmas wish lists) If it is addressed

To the Christkind (christ child, who in Germany brings the presents) or
To the Weihnachtsmann (Santa Claus who brings presents early December and possibly for some kids helps as the Christkind is very busy with it all.....), sending it to the following towns in Germany, the kids will receive an answering letter or card back.

The following are some the towns with special "heaven" related names who do this every year for ten-thousands of kids (not kidding).

Himmelspforten (heaven's gates) or
Engelskirchen (angel's churches)
Himmelsthür (heaven's door)
Nikolausdorf (Nicolaus village)
Himmelsstadt (heavens' town)

Presume there are towns all over the western worlds which have similar names and things going on towards christmas.

Texas has one or two odd ones.

Perhaps the oddest is Walden.

One that I used to pass by between Austin and Houston all the time was Old Dime Box.

White Settlement is thinking of changing their name to something more PC. Negro Bend and Guy Town might want to do the same.

Tom Bean strikes me funny. So does my own town of Flower Mound.

West, Texas might get mixed up with West Texas.

Round Top and Flatonia are not too far apart.
Zipperlandville is near Zipperlenville
Airville is close to Cyclone

One of the most descriptive names, I'm sure, is Hicks.

I wonder about Weeping Mary.

Some are funnier than others. Some are just a little odd, because they're so short. It's as if, after using every other existing town, state, or country name, every surname, every personal name, and every Biblical placename, they began to run out of steam and couldn't even be bothered to come up with a modifier.

In Britain there's sh*t, Yorkshire; Effingham, Surrey; Titsey, Surrey; Tittenhanger, Herts; Crapstone, Devon; Cocking, Sussex; Wetwang, Yorkshire; Upper Ramsbottom, Lancashire.

You can make whatever you like of Scunthorpe, Lincs. I'm not going to as I don't want to offend Dubhlinn, who lives there! :D

My all-time favorite is Short Pump, VA. I probably wouldn't find it that funny, except that it's the culmination of a series of silly-name towns on I-64 between Charlottesville and Richmond. It all starts with Zion Crossroads, then continues with Ferncliff, Vigor, Quail, Oilville, etc.

Then there's always Parole, MD.

Where I'm from, they sometimes send it to Snow, Oklahoma, but the most popular in the USA, at large, is probably North Pole, Alaska.

There's Blackboy Creek in Tulsa. Supposed to have been the site of a battle involving a USCT regiment. There was a move up to change the name.

Tell us something.: I play whistles. I sell whistles. This seems just a BIT excessive to the cause. A sentence or two is WAY less than 100 characters.
