Oh yeah, King Missile's song Martin Scorsese is really just yelling
over background music, with some irony and the F-word (no, not
"fillibuster") thrown in...

Crap? No way!

How could I have forgotten Rage Against the Machine? Superb.

Bad Religion never struck me as very shouty. Quite a melodic band with fair lyrics.

As for Skunk, great pop band. Skin could do shouting or she could do beautiful.

Slayer! Hah! 'Bring Da Noise' with PE! Wonderful...

See? The world is full of great shouting! :D
And whether the blood be highland, lowland or no.
And whether the skin be black or white as the snow.
Of kith and of kin we are one, be it right, be it wrong.
As long as our hearts beat true to the lilt of a song.

Let us not forget the Freestyle Acid House Flamenco quartets visceral tribute to Johnny Weissmuller.."Hey Jane, Let's do it like the animals on the Discovery channel do".

Believe me,there is some serious shouting there.

Slan,
D.
And many a poor man that has roved,
Loved and thought himself beloved,
From a glad kindness cannot take his eyes.

Well, its not shouting, but screaming, which is why I asked. The other difference is that he always managed to make it musical, versus just trying to impress by making a big noise.

Strictly speaking, I guess Amar's nomination of DeepPurple's Gillan should go in the screaming rather than shouting category too.

I've nowt against musical screaming, I just think proper Grohl-style shouting is more where my life is at just now :D  :P

How about Eric Burdon in some of those early Animals singles? Now that bloke could give out...

Steve

He jested, quaff'd and swore."

They cut me down and I leapt up high
I am the life that'll never, never die.
I'll live in you if you'll live in me -
I am the lord of the dance, said he!

That is true. I always loved "I'm Bad",(like Sonny Liston, yeah) "It's My Life", and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". I've got their first album released over here somewhere in this house.
