Bloomfield wrote: Speaking of Texas. There is a story (sure apocryphal) that the first governor of Alaska wrote a letter to the governor of Texas: "Dear Govenor: It has come to my attention that Texans are unhappy about Alaska joining the United States. They resent being the second largest state in the Union. I would therefore like to offer to divide the state of Alaska in half. That way, Texas would be the third largest state in the Union." :)
Bloomfield you left off the best part.

And The Texas Governor replied. Go ahead and divide Alaska, if we like it then we will buy it.

I haven't lived there in 34 years so I've no idea what it's like today.
Actually, I live in Lewisville :)

But it's all pretty close together. I don't know of any sessions in Plano. I do know of a closed session on Fridays, and an open session on Tuesdays.

Here's the info I have on the Tuesday session:

Mid-Cities Open Session, Tuesday, August 2, J. Gilligan's, 7:00 to 10:00.

J. Gilligans is at 400 East Abram in Arlington.

This session is frequently attended by members of the SPRIGGAN band.

The website for J. Gilligan's is:
http://www.jgilligans.com/index.php

A map to J. Gilligans is at:
http://www.jgilligans.com/01/location.php

I haven't gone to the Tuesday session yet (it's 2 or 3 months old), but would be happy to make a special trip to meet ya and introduce you around if, if you'd like (since I do know a bunch of the guys in that session from another session which closed down).

And to address all of those stereotypes:

Though I've lived here all my life, I've never seen a scorpion in Texas except for the one I bought once. Though I've seen them aplenty at my grandparent's house in Oklahoma.

I was going to say it's not all cow pastures and rodeos here, but then I realized that there's a buffalo pasture not a quarter mile down the road.

Dickey's Barbecue is sublime. Dallas water tastes funny.

Most people I know don't wear a cowboy hat or boots.

The National Park areas of southern Utah/northern Arizona see a lot of strange sights when tourists decide to go western. My favorite is always the pudgy guy in plaid Bermuda shorts with cowboy boots and a straw "cowboy hat."

I lived in Plano for four years in the early 1990s. If you wanted to do anything other than shop at a strip-mall, you had to go into Dallas.

Dig around on the SCMA site under "Venues", and look at the Dallas listings. You might find something there. Good luck.

Oops. How'd I ever think it was Irving.

Before I lived in Irving we lived somewhere east of Dallas, before it was all sprawling suburbia. We'd commonly find little tan colored scorpions. My how things change. This was around 1970.

Oh, Vought. (Right?)

I worked for Texas Instruments at the time. The division I worked in was sold to Raytheon shortly after I moved to Washington. (I guess it wasn't worth keeping after I left. )

Also, a search at The Session turns up several hits for the Dallas-Ft Worth area.

Call ahead, for sure before going to any of these..I know that the Cock and Bull is no longer hosting the session there, and that the Bull and Bush message board doesn't have any information about sessions past 2004. The tipperary Inn Friday session is a closed session, but I believe they have one on Sundays that is open. It's my understanding that the Trinity Hall one is closed as well.
