Lost Henson Film

Post by djm »

I'm wondering if any movie buffs out there can help. Xmas 2004 the Henson company released a bizarre little film, I think it was about someone going off to join the theatre or circus or something. All I can remember is the promos for the film showing dancers in sparkling bell-shaped dresses spinning while singing the Carpenters' "Close to You" in a strange harmony. I did not see the film but was waiting for it to come out on DVD. I am unable to find anything like it, or even a mention that would twig my memory as to the name of the film. I know it was expected to only reach a fringe audience, but it seems to have vanished completely. Any takers?

Did Jim Henson Direct or Produce the film? Or write it? Or act in it?

I just came up with that one too - but it hasn't been released yet...

oh, I forgot that Bobby Llewellyn was in that....not sure if that's the film that he's looking for though...I'm puzzled on that one...

Wow! Its to be released this Sept 30th. Psychic or what? Slude's the dude!

Martin, Jim Henson died of AIDS in 1990, but his production company keeps going on.

The wierd harmony on "Close to You" has always been haunting for me. Can't wait for it to come out.

I've never heard that Henson had AIDS. Every report I've seen said he died of pneumonia brought on by Group A streptococcus bacteria, with no mention of HIV or AIDS.

Of course, I could be wrong.

That wouldn't be inconsistent with AIDS, but I'd not heard it was AIDS, either... and it's the sort of thing I think one would hear.

MirrorMask is written by Neil Gaiman, one of my current favorite authors, and directed by Dave McKean who did the covers for Gaiman's Sandman series and illustrated some (most?, all?) of Gaiman's childrens books.

Cool stuff indeed.

It was bacterial pneumonia, not AIDS. Jim Henson wasn't HIV positive.

Henson died of Pneumonia...

You're likely thinking of Richard Hunt, voice of several Muppets (Scooter, for instance), who did die of AIDS.

How did I not know about this until now? This looks awesome!

The website is nice. Go here then click ENTER THE SITE.

I had heard the streptococcal thing too. Around that time my sister had a similar strain and she was ill for months.

Cheers,
Aaron

<a href="http://www.muppetcentral.com/articles/t ... >Here's a copy of an article about Henson's last days.

He was slightly sick the week before his death, but thought it was just a cold or the flu. It quickly went from 'feeling under the weather' to deathly ill in just a few days.

*sniff*
