After reading Steve's post this morning, I thought of the old joke:

Q: How many Chiff & Fipple Members does it take to change a light bulb?

A: 964:
1 to change the light bulb and to post to the board that the light bulb has been changed

50 to share similar experiences how the light bulb could have been changed differently.

1 to silently check the spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs.

10 to flame the 50 who shared similar experiences how the light bulb could have been changed differently

15 to ask for the schematics on how to change a light bulb

25 to tell those who asked for the schematics on how to change the light bulb to grope in the socket

60 to declare that the light bulb is a gift from god and shouldn’t be changed at all

5 to post to the board complaining about the light bulb discussion and its inappropriateness

1 to silently check the spelling/grammar error of the 5 that complained about the inappropriateness

100 to defend the posting to the board saying that we all have the right to use light bulbs and voice our opinions about light bulbs.

500 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is best and which light bulb is high-end.

30 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is best and which light bulb is cheapest.

27 to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs

10 to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly.

33 to link together all posts regarding light bulbs, then quote the full text, simply to say, “me too"

3 to post to the board that they are leaving because they cannot handle the light bulb discussion

25 to suggest that posters go to the main page and read the light bulb FAQ.

1 to propose new light bulb forum.

47 to say this is just what Chiff & Fipple was meant for, leave it here.

20 to say that because light bulbs are electric, they aren’t pure drop, so they won’t touch it

Teri

Actually, the answer would be 984. That would include the following:

1 to check the math, and post confirmation or refutation of the final number (It was correct, btw)

15 to ridicule the anal retentive adder

4 to recheck the math out of morbid curiousity.

Aodhan

P.S. The actual number may never be known, as people will now start coming up with their own variations of categories that should be added with entirely fictitious numbers (As opposed to ours, which are based on solid scientific theory)

Hmmmm.....

And there are also the merits of needing to watch a traditional light bulb changer change it to learn how it is done the right way vs. reading the printed instructions. And which approach would enable one to attain the appropriate nuances of traditional light bulb changing.

And then there would have to be a lengthy discussion of the value of the original incandescent over the fluorescent. And is it full spectrum or no?

And, “Does anyone know what kind of light bulbs Andrea Corr uses???” followed by a plethora of bandwidth wasting photos gleefully posted of the aforementioned anorexic-looking individual.

And of course there would follow a few, ”What light bulbs do you use in worship???”

Light bulbs in WORSHIP! Bite your tongue! That's what candles are for!

(Sorry...I just experienced a brief Anglo-Catholic moment. I'm all right now. ;p )

Ouch, this hits too close to home. I'm going to stop posting. All I do is irritate the higher life forms. (is that applause I hear?)

It was not directed at you. It was directed at ALL of us, including myself. If someone feels left out, please forgive me - it was not intentional.

Tell us something.: "Tell us something" hits me a bit like someone asking me to tell a joke. I can always think of a hundred of them until someone asks me for one. You know how it is. Right now, I can't think of "something" to tell you. But I have to use at least 100 characters to inform you of that.

Good to see we aren't taking ourselves too seriously.

When you get to the top of a mountain, make sure you use sunscreen, 'cause, man, the UV rays can get pretty intense at high altitude.
