This is the pub, a lot of useless mind numbing drivel should happen on this forum... not that it has stopped me from drivelling on other forums.

Interestingly, over the years I have met many many folks from C&F - from all over the world. I used to know a bit about who they were - what they were like, and even in certain cases a good deal about their personal lives. All this came about from one board. The C&F message board. There was plenty of room tot alk about flutes, pipes, whistle bodhráns etc. and *still* have a chance to get to know people and make dear friends. We had no need for any sort of separate forum so we could go talk with each other and come to 'see our mates' outside of the whistle related community.

At the end of the day, this is a message board for whistles, created by folks who play and enjoy whistles, and linked to a whistle related site. That's its founding purpose. It's interesting to me that this "pub" had to be created at all. No one is questioning it's purpose, but rather why it was needed at all. But as has been stated before, those who use it (and very likely rarely if ever use any of the other music related boards) are upset and even quite hostile when questioned about it.

Murphy's point is as valid as anyone elses. I agree with him of course. The exodous of our more senior posters continues, and with many of them leaving, a great resource continues to be undermined in what the C&F message board offers any new faces. It's not fair to ask Dale to change the behavior of everyone who posts here...but it is highly fair to ask those who do to keep things more in line with the idea of a whistle related board. Many of you are smart enough to know what this means.

I would suggest to look at what's being said, and what's being asked concerning the content of the boards here, and then look at both the content, voice and qualntity of your posts and see how it relates to Chiff and Fipple. Perhaps an entirely separate board needs to be created? Move the free-for-all-pub to it's own entirely separate space? It's getting to feel something akin to the two headed guy from Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy. One head was the original...but there's another that's been added recently - and tried to take over the thought process etc. of the first. The solution...cut it off. Give it a new home.

What's your take Murph? Dale?

If, after having been redirected several times, you find yourself unable to stop focusing on this topic, my take on it would be that an entirely separate board needs to be created. Yes, definitely.

And you're the one who should create it.

Find a web-hosting service, get some software, and go for it!

This would be a good project for you. You'd have something to do instead of obsessing about how unhappy you are that you can't have your way here, and you'll be totally in control so you can dictate the rules to suit yourself.

One already has:

The Chiff and Fipple Poststructural Pub
"Socializing and general posts on wide-ranging topics. Remember, it's Poststructural!"

Pehaps you've heard of it... or perhaps you were absent during that time and didn't notice? Of course, since you are right here in the middle of it, surely you must have understood what was happening. I'd wager you even contributed to the discussion of the need, pro's, con's, and the like that Dale initiated.

This constant gripe about the pub being used for exactly what it was designed for is quite tiresome. Surely you could be starting and contributing to threads that *do* match your wants/needs on the specific boards/forums of your interests... like:

The Chiff and Fipple Whistle Forum
The Ultimate On-Line Whistle Community

Flute Forum
The Chiff & Fipple Irish Flute on-line community.

Uilleann Pipe forum
A forum for discussions about the Uilleann (Irish) pipes.

Clips and Snips
Discussion forum for the Clips and Snips tune archive.

Irish Traditional Music Forum
For all instruments -- please read faq before posting.

I, for one, look forward to those contributions and a cessation of the backbiting.

Personally I stayed away from the pub during it's initial stages. I came in every now and again and it was indeed socialising and discussing a wide range of topics. Over the past few months this however has deteriorated into people just waffling on about nothing. There is the odd nugget of a thread that's interesting and fun to participate in. The majority however has become mindnumbingly boring. Whatever way you look at it if this was a real life pub I would most likely not go into it to socialise, maybe to meet certain people if I knew they were there.

Finding people in favout of the 'fluff' segment of this board actually posting mindless empty messages to the test forum to up the postcount is probably a signifcant sign how low things have gone.

The whole thing started by Jack's thread may just be the last straw to a lot of people.

I suggest we have a pub especially for left handed, vegetarian, lisping Leos.

Sorry if I'm dense, but it's getting confusing. I am all for a cessation of backbiting (hate that sort of thing), but I am not quite sure what you are refering to: Murphy, jGilder, Brian, Tyler, me, others? I know it's awkward to be specific when you are accusing people of doing unpleasant things, but it would really help me if you could explain where this backbiting is that you refer to. I guess I'm confused because I thought Brian's post was just a dumb suggestion but no more. Again, I'm probably missing something. Thanks.

Good one, Bloomie... you... dense... only by choice, and only on occaision.

I think the blood trickles are enough, without naming names and continuing the chewing.

BTW... you are cute when you are in this gentle, innocent, confused mode... I don't buy it for a moment, mind you, but it's cute. :D

Let me put it this way then: Perhaps it would be more constructive not to talk of backbiting in the first place. So perhaps I'm not all that dense after all, but I really am confused who or what you were refering to.
