The Internet Movie Database (great site for movie fans) has a trivia page for "Usual Suspects". Apparently, there were a few clues in the movie. I never caught them.Joseph E. Smith wrote: An awesome flick!!! I never saw the ending comig, not even when it ran me over!

I agree with you, Redwolf, and yet... I'm voting to remove them.Redwolf wrote:I think Emmline summed up my opinion perfectly...and that's speaking as a Christian who considers the enemy to be a very real entity, to the point which I don't even speak his name. "Devil" imagery is just silly cartoon stuff, and I see no point at all in removing it. Hitler was a real person who, if anything, was the enemy personified...that's a whole different story.

While on the subject I would strongly recommend the series of books by "Jeffrey Burton Russell". Start with 'The Devil: Perceptions of Evil from Antiquity to Primitive Christianity". It's fairly heavy in parts but excellent food for thought.
I'm no longer trying a new posting paradigm

I actually do remember where I heard that. A sermon from a Deacon at my church when I was about 16. (I just didn't want to really derail the discussion)Scott McCallister wrote:"The greatest lie ever told is that the devil doesn't exist"

The sentiment is also echoed in the angelic spoof titled DOGMA, Starring Matt Damon and Ben AFLAC!,,, er Affleck.
An interesting "Jay and Silent Bob" film but not as well done as Usual Suspects. Truly an excelent flick.

You know, I always imagined the fallen angel as kind of a pretty person (sorry cannot think of a better term). More along the lines of this.Cranberry wrote:Well, and don't exactly resemble Mother Teresa...susnfx wrote:How do they know?!?Cranberry wrote:There also seem to be people who are offended at the emoticons which resemble...Satan.
I thought the horns and goat like features were more of a way to vilify pagan gods that were false to the Christians.
…or maybe the problem is that people do not want to believe evil can be pretty. After all, when was the last time the villain looked better than the good guy?

It is symbolic, based on Christ's analogy of separating the sheep from the goats, in St. Matthew's Gospel.I.D.10-t wrote:I thought the horns and goat like features were more of a way to vilify pagan gods that were false to the Christians.

The most common theory I have read is auld goaty is based upon the Roman god, Pan.I.D.10-t wrote:

In the same way Easter, Halloween and Christmas are all 'converted' pagan festivals, the devil, or at least his image, is also a Christian convert.

I know this emoticon is labelled as "devil" but it has always struck me as some sort of a wasp.
Anyone been stung by a wasp while innocently pottereing about in their garden? I have.
Now, if Dale could change the label on it to read "wasp" instead of "devil" I may vote to get rid of it .....

You know, if you had firefox, and the adblock plugin, you could just block those particular images, and you'd never have to see them again anyway...
This would work for avatars you didn't like, too.
that way you could bowdlerize yourself if you were so inclined, without altering the experience for others
