I must take exception to some of the posts above. I believe the poems and quotes and lyrics posted here don't reflect one-upsmanship or flaunting "erudition;" rather, a simple impulse to share ideas or hopes or beliefs about death, expressed in ways perhaps more moving, profound, or beautiful (or even funny) than ordinary folk can attain. Words that have moved us, given hope and comfort, perhaps some small illumination when faced with the bleakly incomprehensible. And there's also a perverse but very human comfort in laughing at death, too. ...We share here those things we hope others may enjoy, or draw strength from. I, too, applaud Will's wisdom and courage in starting the thread.

Will, I hope you may find strength and solace in every way possible; in reading, and writing, and in the care and love of your family and friends. Peace be with you.
Best,
Pam

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps.

Will,
You will continue to be in my prayers...please know that we are here if and when you need us. And thank you for starting this thread. As Cran said, the topic needs to be thought about more often. Quite a bit of what was posted was truly beautiful.

Yeh. What Bloomfield said.

Hoping the best for you, Will... and hoping the universe is democratic enough to take some notice of all the good wishes expressed here.

I wrote this during the last couple weeks.

The Process Of Dying

Cranberry Jones

She lowly hangs her head in shame
She's crippled by the fear of death
She kneels to pray and calls His name
She fears that she has no faith left

The Lord holds her heart in His hand
The time will get here soon enough
The time has passed and is long gone
The peace engulfs her in God's love

Her fear was deep and ever strong
Her faith had been her only friend
Her heart had held out all along--
Her Jesus Christ might intervene

No one is too sick for Jesus
No one's evils can't be pardoned
No pill treats spirit diseases--
No drug but a heart unhardened

Where did you find that? What we've had here is mostly just a contest to see who could google up the coolest quotes, sort of a "my erudition is bigger than your erudition" marathon.

(Not that I think that's a bad thing, especially since it resulted in missy posting Sam McGee in its entirety for one and all to savor, and not just the good parts version I put up a while back. I love that line that says "I didn't like to hear him sizzle so.")

I doubt if most folks googled them. I mean, yeah, maybe to get exact lyrics and such, but one would assume that the posts here are mostly songs/poems/words that have affected the poster in some way in the past.

If people want to talk about death that's their perogative....even if the thread really didnt start out so serious...
Some of the stuff makes me sad though...

Agreed. It is something we all have to deal with, sooner or later... almost always sooner than we would choose to learn to deal with it. I have had to help even my young children deal with it, and the only way to do so and keep sanity is honestly and , when possible, with humor.
My apologies to all my friends. I was admitted to the local hospice over the weekend. My first few posts were some of my own rantings. I used other people's words 'cause I can't really think much on my own anymore. I don't know why I did what I did. I guess it was my own way of tring to deal with things. It's a real kick in the head. But tha's life

Will,

I've read the threads and am praying for you and your family daily.
