I must take exception to some of the posts above. I believe the poems and quotes and lyrics posted here don't reflect one-upsmanship or flaunting "erudition;" rather, a simple impulse to share ideas or hopes or beliefs about death, expressed in ways perhaps more moving, profound, or beautiful (or even funny) than ordinary folk can attain. Words that have moved us, given hope and comfort, perhaps some small illumination when faced with the bleakly incomprehensible. And there's also a perverse but very human comfort in laughing at death, too. ...We share here those things we hope others may enjoy, or draw strength from. I, too, applaud Will's wisdom and courage in starting the thread.

Will, I hope you may find strength and solace in every way possible; in reading, and writing, and in the care and love of your family and friends. Peace be with you.

Where did you find that? What we've had here is mostly just a contest to see who could google up the coolest quotes, sort of a "my erudition is bigger than your erudition" marathon.

(Not that I think that's a bad thing, especially since it resulted in missy posting Sam McGee in its entirety for one and all to savor, and not just the good parts version I put up a while back. I love that line that says "I didn't like to hear him sizzle so.")

I doubt if most folks googled them. I mean, yeah, maybe to get exact lyrics and such, but one would assume that the posts here are mostly songs/poems/words that have affected the poster in some way in the past.

Agreed. It is something we all have to deal with, sooner or later... almost always sooner than we would choose to learn to deal with it. I have had to help even my young children deal with it, and the only way to do so and keep sanity is honestly and , when possible, with humor.
My apologies to all my friends. I was admitted to the local hospice over the weekend. My first few posts were some of my own rantings. I used other people's words 'cause I can't really think much on my own anymore. I don't know why I did what I did. I guess it was my own way of tring to deal with things.
