Better than Harry Potter 6

Post by jsluder »

Since "She Who Must Not Be Named" was engrossed in the latest Harry Potter book this past weekend, she basically told me to take a hike. So I did. Here's the view from the spot where I had lunch on Sunday. 8)

Tell us something.: I've picked up the tinwhistle again after several years, and have recently purchased a Chieftain v5 from Kerry Whistles that I cannot wait to get (why can't we beam stuff yet, come on Captain Kirk, get me my Low D!)

Nice.
What camera do you take with you on hikes?

This peaks my interest, where is it? Nice pick and the snow looks great, considering we here in southwestern Ontario are into our second day of a extreme heat emergency.

Everybody has a photographic memory. Some just don't have film.

Thanks. I've got a Panasonic Lumix FZ-20 (5 MP, 12X optical zoom). I scaled this photo down to 640x480 to post it here, though.

It's the eastern face of Mt. Rainier, taken from Banshee Peak.

There is actually much less snow than usual. Most years, there's 2 or 3 times more snow in September than we have in July this year. I didn't even have to carry my ice axe on this hike.

Hm, nice. We don't get mountains like that though we did a nice walk in the McGillicuddies a few weeks ago (well, we walked up and down the Gap of Dunloe).

Last sunday we drove to East Clare and took a little boat out to Holy Island in Lough Derg. Which was OK too.

so THAT'S what Ranier looks like!

When we were there 3 years ago, it was too foggy to see the top. It was foggy on our ride out to Friday Harbor, too. It was foggy when we drove down the coast to Portland. It's now a going joke that if you want to see fog, just ask us to be there.

I've found that nearly every location has its own charm, even without large mountains. (I say "nearly" because I exclude Dallas, Texas, from that statement. :) ) And from the photos you've posted at various times, it's obvious that you're blessed with an abundance of natural beauty where you live. (That's a couple more really nice photos, by the way. Thanks for sharing them!)

Cheers,
John

Denny, is that the view from your property? If so, I'm envious. We live too close to Seattle to be able to afford a house with a view of the mountains or the sound. Being able to call it a "view home" bumps the price of a house up considerably around here.

short answer: yep!
long answer: naw, nobody would read the long answer!

We have only been here a few months... It doesn't seem real sometimes.
...and it never seems done.

That's what the locals want whenever tourists visit. It helps keep people from wanting to move here.

The best time to visit is generally mid-July through September. Lots of sunshine, though it can get hazy enough to block the grand views. The weather really sucks the rest of the year, though. Yessiree, really, really sucks. You wouldn't want to live here, with 9 months of continuous drizzle. Nope, not a good place to live.

Man could you imagine reading Harry Potter while you were up there?
