Nice set. You're lucky it's only a pencil. I usually get hti with whatever's close at hand - rolling pin, clock radio, Jack Russell, etc.

Tell us something.: I am a walrus, I am a tea pot. John Lennon said that but people see him as a guru. Well, tell, you what he also almost became a piper asking Paddy Keenan to teach him. (bleep) got bored & went on the sitar and the rest is history.

Lovely looking set Dave.

In reply to the query over the popping valve, it makes the chanter easy to 'close' at any angle on the leg, which helps when playing drones and later regs, when many players angle the chanter over somewhat.

Also it's one less bit of hassle setting up, no popping strap to tie on. I always tied it on due to playiong outside in a windy country. The Howard popping valve is pin mounted and has a built in tuning iris for tuning the soft and hard D.

Like all these things it's optional, but I wouldn't go back.

Nick Whitmer half set. Drones received in April 2005. The chanter is Nick's but was only a loaner. It's now back with him.

Now all I need to do is convince the wife to let me get regulators... (watch this space)

Tim Britton C chanter

Post by vanfleet »

Trying to post a couple of pictures of my new Tim Britton chanter in the key of C. Very happy with this, will try to post a review on the Chiff Board as soon as I can figure out how to record a snippet of sound (we shan't call it music, yet).
The chanter is 40.64 cm (16 inches) long and 11 mm at the throat, sort of a narrow bore design, with smaller tone holes than my Britton D chanter.

Nice looking chanter Jim. I love the tone of TB's C chanters.

If you want to post photos, you can use this place... http://photobucket.com ... it is free and easy to use. You may want to reduce the size of your photos down to about 500 pixels, it will keep the pages of our forum at their normal size.

Lovely chanter. Tim Britton has a good reputation for flat sets. Looking forward to hearing how it sounds.

That's quite a popping strap he's got there.

It's a Mobile Popping Strap, from the Medievel period.

(Thinking about the "Holy Grail" film, with the guy doing the horse-hoof sounds with the coconuts).

Oh wait - you said it's a POPING strap... Benedict XVI Poping Straps for sale! Get your Benedict XVI Poping Strap!
