Wooden Flute Obsession 3 - Sound Samples

Post by kkrell »

Here is the list of flute players who have agreed to provide a recording for volume 3 of "Wooden Flute Obsession" (2 CDs), circumstances permitting. There may be room for a few more tracks, depending on track length, and there may certainly be changes and additions as the project progresses. As tune titles are firmed up, I will have that information at http://www.worldtrad.org/WFO3_CD2.htm . As the contract paperwork for each track is completed and recordings approved, I will post MP3 samples on that page as well. There will also be a biography page with some information about each flute player. All are expected to be new recordings EXCEPT those marked with an asterisk *, which are from existing recordings.

I'm sorry ther is no Breton player; anyway, it'll be nice, and I need one.

Best wishes

hey Kevin,

not that you need a longer list, but have you ever thought about putting dan isaacson on an upcoming WFO? There are a couple of great solo and duet flute tracks on the magic square cd (www.themagicsquare.com). The track of Dan and Peter Molloy playing together is great.

you may have already spoken with dan about this, but just wanted to throw the suggestion out there.

Seconded. I got the Magic Square this weekend when I saw Dave Cory playing with Lissa Schneckenburger (whose beauty was as amazing as her playing... can't say the same about Dave though! :D) and I have been listening to it over and over again. I think it deserves to be a classic.

Tell us something.: I restore 19th century flutes, specializing in Rudall & Rose, and early American flutes. I occasionally make new flutes. Been at it for about 15 years.

I voted for: Old Archive recordings/restorations.

I envision: Wooden Flute Obsession IV -- Under the Influence. A double CD collection of private, restored, and (where absolutely necessary) recreated recordings dedicated to the most influential flute music of the 20th century. Each track would, of course, be accompanied by an anecdotal explanation by a contemporary player why that particular tune or setting is included.... Oh, and some photos too.

Tough project, I know. But, man it would be great.

Kevin let me again say how much I appreciate the work you put into these outstanding projects.

Regards
Byron

A few weeks ago I ordered the WFO bundled Cd's on a Saturday morning, recieved confirmation of shipment that afternoon and they were in my mailbox that Monday morning at 10 am. Excellent service! Thank you kkrell for the excellent service and the quality of the product is first rate. I have been listening to these CDs everyday , every minute I can.

Some (about 16 so far) short audio samples are now available on http://www.worldtrad.org/WFO3_CD2.htm

Look for the MP3 icon with the thicker border around them.

Still Jan-Mar. 2006. The last few hold-out tracks are expected before the end of Nov., and if everyone drops their contracts back in the mail right away, I can get on with it.

I'd love to hear a chunk of the older stuff, too. And wow, if it could be restored ..... you'd be doing the whole world a favor!

Maybe you could call it WFO .01 since it's sort of a precursor to today's. :D

I'm certainly willing to do so, if the material can be found. There's already some taken from cassette sources, for instance, and they can be cleaned up. And I seek permission from the players, family, etc. If only someone would send me stuff, or RTE would let recordings out.

Oh, BTW, Norman Holmes is making his own 8-keyed flutes (w/lined keyways), modeled after his Rudall & Rose, with Bill Naughton. Norman plays the first of these flutes on his WFO track.

Anyone know how to kill a poll on a thread? I can't delete edit it. The consensus seems to be that new recordings are OK, but some focus should be given to seeking out and restoring archival material as a sort of balance.
