All Things in Moderation
I considered posting an angry defense of the moderation of the board, because I've been taking some flak on it lately. But, actually, what I'm moved to do instead is to thank people for their support.
Once in awhile, a little flurry of trouble arises on the board, but just once in awhile. When it does, I catch some complaints, which I really don't mind. In the case of my recent decision to ban a user, I got some which were well thought-out, thought-provoking and appreciated. From two or three people, I got angry, shrill, and rather hysterical emails & PMs. But, you know, I can live comfortably with those numbers.
So, what takes the steam out of my impulse to get defensive? I've gotten a lot of support about this recent issue, the suspension of the UP forum, and one or two other recent problems. Members of this board have contributed materially and generously to a recent and very personal fundraiser I initiated. I continue to cherish the friendships and associations from Chiff & Fipple. C&F has been a blessing in my life.
The C&F boards are experiencing some growing pains. On the technical side, the high level of activity on the boards is prompting us to have to consider what to do next about hosting the software and databases. And, I think the growth in membership inevitably makes moderating a bit more of a challenge. That said, it ain't all that hard, as hard things go.
I'm grateful to everyone who helps out with the moderation process and I very much appreciate everyone's support and constructive criticism.
Thanks!

The Wisely Rap
(to be spoken to the same "music" all rap songs are spoken to)
Moderate!
Investigate!
Fumigate!
Translate!
Dood, how do you rate?
I can't wait
To interrogate
About Spillane-gate.
Pipes irritate!
Bodhrans aggravate!
Whistles deteriorate!
Flutes acclimate!
Dood, how do you rate?
I can't wait
To interrogate
About Talbert-gate.
Should I go on? I feel a #1 CD coming on....

Oh, yeah: also a mod here, not a spammer. A matter of opinion, perhaps. - Location: Lefse country

I'm thinking he plans to have a nice chianti with Bloomfield's liver... of course, I could be wrong... and not for the first time.Nanohedron wrote:Dale, how much drinking are you planning to do then if you need the backup? The Disputed Undisputed wrote:Note to self: Acquire Bloomfield's liver for that dinner party this weekend.

Another user banned? No Station, no Porridge, no Talbert. Oh Woe.
I like this board the way it is. I appreciate Dale's efforts and expense at hosting it.
I'm sure glad Cranberry is still here. Now that my oldest daughter has moved away and left her dear old decrepit daddy alone Cran has become like a sarrogate son/daughter to me.
Well, not really but what the heck.
